    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

I think that the small hole in the middle of the absorber is what is responsible for the low frequency boost. I did some experimenting on my HD800 and made my own centre hole absorber for 6Khz and centre resonator to boost the very low frequencies. To be honest the 6kHz reduction alone is easily...

    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

You know there have recently been more than a few people who just happen to mention their 'favourite dealer' when giving their listening impressions..

    ARRIVED: new Rega DAC

Sorry to hog the thread but now I have listened to the DAC - R for many days now. Firstly take all my comments with a large grain of salt, I am a 43 year old guy with old ears who is currently on a large DAC-R induced sugar high.     I am actually quite shocked at how much better my speakers...

    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

If you guys are considering buying headphones from another country then the standard HD800 is currently around USD$950 new in Australia.  The Aussie dollar is also forecast to devalue further against the USD. A few years ago the Australian dollar was 110% of the USD. Now it is 70%.

    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

Hi again Shabta, another hard question but if anyone can answer this without bias it's you, I really have appreciated the honesty and detail in your past responses . Recently I upgraded from Rega Apollo CD Player to Rega DAC R fed by the Apollo as transport. It made a large night and day...

    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

Hi Shabta :) I think from memory your HD800 only goes to 3dB on the bottom end frequencies whilst your HD800S goes to 5dB. Many newer HD800 's go to 5dB and Sorrodje possibly has one of these. That possibly could be the reason why both you have conflicting opinions.

    ARRIVED: new Rega DAC

Well after listening to it for many hours yesterday I can now say that the difference in sound quality between the older Apollo CD player and the DAC is large. More detail, more analogue sounding with a much larger soundstage. Largest difference I have ever heard in a digital device (but then I...

    ARRIVED: new Rega DAC

Just burning in my new DAC R. I upgraded from the original Rega Apollo which is the only CD player I have loved. Only a few hours into the burn in but already I can tell I like the apodizing filter. To me it makes the treble sound more natural on my HD800 ' s. The DAC R seems softer than my...

    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

http://www.psych.usyd.edu.au/staff/alexh/teaching/auditoryTute_2014/   Hi James :)   Heres the source, not using this as a means to justify my answer. Just to continue the conversation. Apparently its for natural age related hearing loss and is an interesting read. I'm always keen to learn...

    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

Hi James:) Nice to have someone read my post at least :) Your graphs pretty much match mine if you factor in the ears natural frequency response. This one shows Hearing Threshold rather than Hearing Loss as in my graph. Hearing Threshold is the minimum loudness in dB to hear a sound and it...

    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

Possibly I have another few gigs of crap here but it is interesting crap (to me anyway). I found another graph which shows average hearing loss vs age for an extended frequency range. Check out the graph for age = 40.  There is a major dip @ approximately 6KHZ (the dreaded peak). This dip due to...

    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

Thanks Shabta for your impressions, they are very valuable. I noticed that your HD800 only goes to 3dB in the low end compared to many new HD800 which go to 5dB just like the S model. Are you able to EQ up to 5dB your HD800 in the low end and then post your impressions using piano music? This...

    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

All I can say is that with my HD800 (graph attached) and my 42 year old ears I hear a flat response from 1Khz to around 7Khz. At this point it dips then picks up and gives its strongest amplitude at around 10KHz-12Khz. What I hear at 6 kHz could be 10dB lower than someone in their early...

    Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

No idea, but if you were a company and had some people complaining about a treble spike then it would be foolish not to fulfil a need and make more money at the same time .   The real winners will be all parties  if / when the HD850 is released. HD800/ 800S are the same basic headphone ...
