11th Calgary Head-Fi Meet Sunday May 31st, 2015 at University of Calgary

I would be interested, since last time I had some family issues come up and I couldn't attend. As far as gear goes, I finally got around to restoring my old Pioneer SX-5590. Costs me several hundred dollars in parts (most of them boutique). Sounds great and its's a gorgeous unit, but it's way...

My 10 year old Little Dot ii+ has developed nasty distortion in the right channel. How can I tell if this is the tube or internet circuitry?

Heh, I must be tired that I didn't think of that obvious. Having just looked at the layout of that amp, none of those parts are the type that would break down very often (unless the capacitors dried out from age and heat), so most likely, it's the tubes. But, if the tubes are not the culprit...

Could very well just be the tube dying. It doesn't cost much to replace the tubes, so just start from there and replace the pair.

Sound Science is Dangerous to our Enjoyment of Music!

I absolutely love that site. It makes my day to know that people bought these and thought he was serious. Check out these favorites of mine: "Teleportation Acoustic Tweak": http://www.machinadynamica.com/machina60.htm "Codename Blue Meanies Room Tweaking Device"...

    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

That's true, any film will be better than a standard electrolytic. I've seen people make the Obbligato 100uf caps fit, and those are 65x135mm, so the Clarity cap would be easy by comparison ;) What I personally did was leave the electrolytic in there and bypassed it with a 47uf Obbligato Gold...

11th Calgary Head-Fi Meet Sunday May 31st, 2015 at University of Calgary

All I was just saying 3 ohms wasn't all that low, considering most audiophile headphones start around 32 ohm nominal impedance ;) But, as for the tube thing always having a high impedance, that is true, but using an output transformer to appropriately match the output impedance to that of the...

3 ohm output impedance isn't so bad... when you look at other great sounding things such as the bottlehead crack, which has an output impedance of around 120ohm, iirc.

Still, this is a better cap, and is on sale for 25 dollars (the 100uf, 250V one): http://www.partsconnexion.com/capacitor_film_claritycap_px.html

My instinct would have to say input 'should' have the most effect on sound.

    New Audeze "Prototype-Z"!

Agreed. I think these are aimed at a specific amp type, mainly OTLs, as most solid state would probably struggle to produce the current to drive these. I may just make my 6/12SN7 based otl amp when these come out :)
