So much scope with these classic headphones.

I was impressed with the RME compared to the V281 tonally, but of course the V281 has more depth, a blacker background and tremendous bass (bass quality, usually tightness, being my main argument for using a separate headphone amp).

Having tried it before with a different setup, one that must have been underpowered from the source, I have hooked up my 880's (600 ohm) to the G111 and Chord Qutest...sublime. (If you like everything on the neutral/transparent side of things). Highly recommended setup.

Mk1 owner here, interesting to hear the comparisons with the Mk2. Have you tried the Beyerdynamic DT 880 (600ohm) with either version of this amp?

Been a while since I posted here but just had to comment (again!) on how great these headphones are. (Especially for the price) Been using the HD 800S out of RME Adi for movies, due to THAT soundstage but of course I had the usual frustrations with the bass...not a basshead by any stretch but...

Research a smooth sounding amp, for this excellent headphone.

Oh I did! My best dac, (Chord Qutest) has been moved from another setup, so I can enjoy it with this little gem of a headphone amp.

If you don't hear noise as it is, then in theory it should be fine moving it down to a lower gain. (I think?) I have had to switch the gain down to accomodate my pair of DT 700 Pro X.

I think it was the right side (of the longer cable) that kept cutting out several times, when I moved my head! Like I said, not really acceptable for a new product. (Still enjoying the 700's with the shorter cable though) Fake news or not on recalls, there does seem to be an issue with some...

My long cable for the 700's is faulty. Totally unacceptable for a new product in my opinion. Thankfully I'm happy to use the shorter cable...but normally it would be a big deal.

Excellent points being made re natural sound signatures, Lake People/Violectric amps and of course the qualities that are more audiophile and are therefore supposedly better... The idea of a well executed (aiming to be accurate and natural) 'studio' can, has a lot more appeal to me these days...

The 700 reminds me of the V281 amp...not exactly sparkly or airy (so some will say a little on the dark side) but quite neutral at the same time. A very satisfying sound signature in my opinion.

Not sure about every aspect...
