Well last time I put my HD 800 in my motherboard's audio output there wasn't any noise really. And I assume that the WA2 is better than a "premium" onboard audio solution.

My cable went bad, and apparently it's too hard for Sennheiser to also check the cable when you send it in for repairs. Check it with some other output first I guess, if there is no static there then the cable is the culprit.
