Best Open Headphones for Gaming? $300-$500

Just an update since I started this thread. I ended up falling down the rabbit hole. I ended up buying the HD6xx, 58x, 7xx, LCD-2c, HD598, 4XX, TR-X00. I have to say the best cans for gaming out of those are the 7XX. Has wide soundstage and great sound for the price. For more intimate games, I...

What do I need, to hook up my new amp/dac with sources?

Wow, this is far more complex than I thought. On my MacBook, I do have a USB-C to USB dongle. Not sure, what I will do, looks like I'm stuck just using my MacBook for the LCX, since everything else seems complex. My Receiver does have Zone 2, but I think it's for Left-Right banana plug inputs...

What do I need, to hook up my new amp/dac with sources?

I'm new with amp/dac's, and I'm not sure of the best ways to hook up my sources. I just pulled the trigger on the "Massdrop Liquid Carbon X + SDAC DAC/Amp" and I'm planning of driving them with all my headphones. My sources are as follows: Apple TV (4th Gen)- Does not have an optical out; only...

Nintendo Switch Headphone Power Output (ohm)

Hi, I have IEMs, but I like to use open headphones for the little one at the home, or to be aware of my surroundings in public. I have not tried the USB-C port for sound output. Didn't know that was possible. I do have a Dragonfly Red, but not sure how to connect it. I'm guessing I would need...

Nintendo Switch Headphone Power Output (ohm)

Nintendo switch has great games for portability, but one thing it lacks is decent power output for headphones. I currently use Sennheiser HD-598 (50ohm), but the switch cant juice it up; max volume is low and you lose out on detail. I tried finding the power output for the switch, but I can't...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I don't own the 599 but, I do own the 598, and the 58X is superior in every department. The only pro I would give to the 598, is that they are easier to drive. I prefer to use them for my Nintendo Switch.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I have the HE-4XX and the 58X is the better overall can. Wins in every category (detail, Bass, mids etc.) except soundstage and build.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Not bad and great price. Here’s another cable. Already own two: 4XX and 6XX. Choose from 1.2m to 3m. Since cables are snake oil, these worked great for $16. NewFantasia Replacement Audio upgrade Cable For Sennheiser HD650, HD600, HD580, HD660S, Massdrop HD6XX headphones 1.2meters/4feet...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Both are great. 4XX has that spacious sound and more soundstage. 58X is superior overall: tighter bass, quality and quantity of bass, greater detail, easier to drive, less fatiguing. Not sure if I left something out.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I’m looking forward to trying my 58X with video games. Hopfully tonight. My previous to go cans were the AKG 7XX for the soundstage. I have two games that have excellent soundtracks to test them on. REZ Infinite and Wipreout Omega; both are heavily focused on music, with Rez gameplay impacting...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

It seems very high-end headphones can combat these restrictions best, but never abosolute. If my memory serves correct, the HD 800 S improves in detail, but loses some soundstage.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

It's great for a complimentary headphone. Headphones that excell at soundstage, lack in detail -- you can't have both. It comes down to preference, but to counter that, some people only want one headphone; sacrifices will be made.
