GARAGE 1217 PROJECT KAMELEON
For whatever reason, the Kameleon fails to be popular on head-fi. If you're looking for info and feedback, the DIY audio heaven website is filled with Kameleon users and lots of reviews. The designer is on there frequently and is willing to offer very honest advice. Also, just as a heads up...- ktmracer12345

I've loved my 400i and now I need an upgrade. If these sound anything like the HEK or HEX, they're gonna be winners.- ktmracer12345

The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)
Worst headphone I've ever owned! For $5 more, the 1more single driver is 10x the headphone. I've owned most of the Xiaomi and most of the 1more IEMs. In order of best to worst: 1more triple, 1more single, Piston 3's, Piston 2's, 1more double, 1more Bluetooth, Xiaomi Hybrids.- ktmracer12345

The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)
The triples! I bought both and I'd say the triples are worth 10x the price. I find the triples a great deal at their $100 msrp. I find the doubles a rip off at $50. I actually like my single more than the double, and I've seen them on sale under $20. Also, the cord tangles but it's fabric...- ktmracer12345

"Open Alpha" T50 3D printed headphone project from MrSpeakers
You're talking about the rods right? Honestly, I think the chalkboard paint will peel. Powder coating is fairly durable (and used by ZMF). You can consider anodizing (are they aluminum or steel?) or plating (nickel, chrome, gold, etc.). For straight up options and ease of application, it's hard...- ktmracer12345

"Open Alpha" T50 3D printed headphone project from MrSpeakers
I just went back and reread this old article from Headfonics: http://headfonics.com/2014/08/12-flagship-headphones-compared-the-totl-guide/12/ According to Michael the Alphas sound best with a 2+ watt amp with a warm signature. This pretty much narrows your list down to the Ember. (I can't find...- ktmracer12345

Amp choice is kinda personal and everyone will have a different answer. They'll all be correct. Personally: Considering sound only: Torpedo>Ember>Valhalla>Gustard>Asgard. Disclaimer: I've never heard a gustard though, so I'm going straight off secondhand accounts. Things to consider...- ktmracer12345

"Open Alpha" T50 3D printed headphone project from MrSpeakers
Regardless of the type of primer and paint, you'll need a really nice surface to start. I'd definitely acetone the outside. Acetone, sand fairly well through about 400, hi lift primer, wet sand primer, more primer, wet sand, more primer, paint 5-6 coats, wet sand, 1 more paint layer, 3-4 clear...- ktmracer12345

"Open Alpha" T50 3D printed headphone project from MrSpeakers
The first pair! Couple questions: 1. Do you have a materials list? 2. Any surprise expenses? 3. Any special equipment needed? I have a soldering gun, 3D printer, and basic tools (pliers, scissors, knives, screwdrivers, etc.) I'm just worried because for me, DIY tends to run about 10x...- ktmracer12345

I Need A really Powerful Good DAC. There Is no price range
More power: http://garage1217.com/garage1217_diy_tube_headphone_amplifiers_004.htm 2.4 watts. Enough power for HE-6's. Likewise, it is one of the best sounding amps I've ever heard. It has different settings, so you can use it on your IEM's if so desired. If it's a bit overkill, G1217...- ktmracer12345

Best budget Portable in-ear phones
I agree with Griffith and the Chinese IEM's. You're going to be limited in the under $30 range. I originally started with: 1. Xiaomi Piston 2's, 2. moved to Piston 3's (a slight downgrade), 3. then Xiaomi Mi Hybrid (a big downgrade. The worst IEM of this group). 4. Afterwards I moved to...- ktmracer12345

Recommendation for Light Headphones for Gift
I've had my wife try quite a few headphones. She doesn't do in ears, so they are ruled out. Her favorites have been the Oppo PM-3's and Sennheiser 598's. They're both relatively light and comfortable. The 598's are open, but they have a new closed back version, the 598cs. The 569's are very...- ktmracer12345
