Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!
Haven't found one yet. I'm looking for more pads to try and experiment with. Don't think any third party sells pads for the yammys at the moment.- jrkong

Aurisonics ROCKETS: Impressions Thread
I helped put together a few pairs back in 2014. If it's the jack side, just buy a new 3.5mm jack and solder the wires following the pinout. If you don't mind a slightly shorter cable you may want to snip off a bit at the ends and strip off the wire so you start off with some clean cable. If your...- jrkong

Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!
Oops! I missed the @, I wrote a few versions of that post because I kept losing my drafts as I got sidetracked working on side projects. Definitely great to have your input here and appreciate you covering some of the things I missed!- jrkong

Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!
Similar to the Yammys, sound great, measurably/graphically "bad". Something even they admit themselves. Rule number 1 of the hobby: Ok is what you can afford (most of the time) and what was the saying? "Welcome to Head-Fi and sorry for your wallet" or something along those lines? I'm running...- jrkong

Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!
If I understood and remember the original paper correctly the Harmon target was never about accurate reproduction but the "average" preference frequency response curve for listeners when using headphones. The controversy around the Harmon target for iems is because the testing was less thorough...- jrkong

Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!
I don't think anyone was arguing if Amir could measure the squiggles on a graph properly. I think all that's being said here is squiggle chasing isn't the only way to do headphones. The Harmon Target has done a lot of good for the industry by creating an easy to follow tuning template...- jrkong

DROP + GRELL OAE1
I can only theorize that the way the sound resonates throughout the earcup was accounted for as they tuned the headphones. The OAE1's sound is hard for me to pin down for sure. Sometimes it works for me sometimes it doesn't. I need to give it some more time before I can give my thoughts on...- jrkong

Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!
Really nice especially with the new amps I've got to play with. The thing that I noticed after switching back to them after using the HD800S primarily was the speed and resolution of the YH-5000SE, it is easily a cut above the HD800S. When listening to the HD800S the details were there but I...- jrkong

There's a notch on the rim of the original connector that helps keep it in place if I remember correctly. That's probably why the stock one feels more secure.- jrkong

Cayin HA-3A and the ZMF Homage. I was given a choice between new parts or tightening the old screws. I told them I'd wait for new screws because I'm hoping it increases the chances of this not happening again in the future but they told me it would be better to bring them in when those arrived...- jrkong

Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!
This is from a few months back but for me, the winner between the YH-5000SE vs Utopia was entirely chain dependent. A few months back I wanted to get the Utopia 2022 to round out my collection and I went to my local store to give them another audition and I found I preferred the YH-5000SE a LOT...- jrkong
