Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread

@jjazzy That's very good to know! I've always thought that I'd be buying a lot of features that I would never use like the headphone amp and preamp capability of the tt2. I'm assuming that you don't find it to sound "thin" compared to the Qutest/MScaler combo? I read a comment on a different...

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread

Qutest was bright for me until I did several things: replaced the stock SMPS with a Sbooster LPS, this helps a lot; leave it powered up at all times; let it burn in 500 to 1000 hours of listening time; use good cables not the stock cables; add the MScaler. And if you don't need the 3v input...

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread

@stanrozenfeld You can go a long way with a Bluesound Node X. That's the latest version. I haven't heard it but I used a Node 2i for several years into a Qutest. The Node 2i was responsive to cable improvements. I upgraded the power cable to a Nordost C-7 purple flare and the coax bnc-rca...

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

@Hiyono which iFi Elite did you use before you used the battery? Was it the 12v or the 15v? Thanks!

Thank you for the details. I’m deciding between a Douk U2 XU208 USB to toslink optical converter using a new Lifatec glass cable or the SRC-DX with an AQ Carbon digital coax cable I have on-hand. Or I may do nothing because it sounds so good right now. About 100 listening hours ago I...

So if I understand correctly, the only benefit a SRC-DX would provide to a Chord DAC & MScaler system would be to remove the USB receiver chip’s contribution to RF contamination. Maybe that’s enough for a cost-effective performance gain, yes?

I posted my question before I saw your post. Then I read farther back in this thread and voila!

I wasn’t looking for electrical isolation. I want the controlling clock to be the Aurender N150’s clock rather than the Qutest’s clock. Doesn’t the streamer’s clock become “the clock” when a coax interface is used? Doesn’t the DAC clock become the controlling clock when USB is used? My...

My sources input to the MScaler are up to 192 kHz on streaming services Qobuz, Tidal and JazzRadio. Most of it is 44k. The 24bit/44k and 24bit/48k songs sound very good! Would the double galvanic isolated USB ports on my streamer and the MScaler take care of most of the electric isolation? I...

My sources are up to 192kHz sample rates Using mostly Qobuz, Tidal and JazzRadio streams. So no DSD. How much improvement did you get using it with a MScaler? Especially for these “lower” sample rates. What improved? Any advice regarding set-up? Also, what DAC are you using? Thanks!

Re Audiowise SRC-DX. Is anyone using this with MScaler? I’ve searched and searched but only find people using SRC-DX with DACs, Dave, Qutest and TT2. I’m considering it with my existing MScaler and Qutest and an Aurender N150 streamer. I’d think it would be N150>USB cable>SRC-DX>BNC...

@Meridian7 My SBooster on a Qutest DAC sounded bad for the first 50 hours listening time. It was powered on 24x7, not shutdown. After 50 hours, it was barely acceptable in an audiophile sense but I could clearly hear it improving. Minimum of over 100 hours listening time to sound okay. Fully...

Thanks! As I’ve aged I have found there are many things I don’t know!

@Jawed @Meridian7 thanks! I’ll choose the 12v/4A version if I decide to do this. It’s the variable input voltage on-demand that makes me pause. For the wide variability of acceptable input voltage I’ve rarely seen that for DC power on other audio components— and only with a switch or jumper.
