I see. I read that the k601/k612 are quite demanding so I think that I'll probably go with something else. My plan at the moment is probably to get a superlux headphone then a good amp/dac and then better headphones (perhaps the k612) if I think it's needed.

I forgot to ask, would I get away with not amping the k612s if I were to opt for them?

I appreciate the comparison you gave on the ms1s and the k612s! Do you have any experience with superlux headphones? I've also been looking at the HD681F as an option as I've read that it doesn't have the piercing highs that some can't cope with on the HD681.

I've also looked at the fostex TH-7BB but I find it hard to find info on these headphones. I read that the previous version had a dark background which would be good for ambient/atmospheric music.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I was looking at the MS1i and grados too but with the release of the new e series I was wondering whether or not I should wait and see the reviews for those. Any idea if there will be new alessandro models for the recently released e series?
