**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

New HE-400s owner.  Previous experience: AKG K81-DJ, Koss KSC75, UE Triple-Fi 10, AT AD900.    Buying these, I was looking for one pair of headphones that sounded good with everything from pop/rock to metal and country and classical and blues and jazz and electronic.     The open (and...

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

I've been listening to Triple Fi Pro's for a couple years now (and love them), but I want something more comfortable I can listen to at my desk.     Genres:  Thrash metal, death metal, black metal, folk metal, some power and prog metal...   (and pop, rock, electronic, older country/folk...

IEM Driver Failure (Ultimate Ears Triple Fi Vi 10)

Quote: I'm happy with that as long as the driver doesn't fail just after the warranty period expires.     $30 for a cable is a small price for the delight of these.  $300 for a new set from Amazon.. notsomuch, I got in on the $90 Amazon deal.

IEM Driver Failure (Ultimate Ears Triple Fi Vi 10)

I'm used to jack failure on headphones, but my ~8-month old Ultimate Ears just stopped producing all but some very light, tinny sound from the left earpiece with no jack failure symptoms (wiggling the jack doesn't make it go on-off).     I'm wondering if the bass driver died.  What...

Does anyone else share this feeling?

Anyone mind giving me a couple examples of overproduced music that otherwise sounds great?

Does the fall of music ever depress you? It does me.

Quote: As a metalhead, Bach's organ music is the most consistently listenable classical I've ever heard.  Sure, there are many great works that can entrance me, but it's temporary (probably because I have no patience whatsoever).

What dB will my player/phones combo produce?

Is there a way of roughly determining this? For all the articles about hearing loss I've read, I cannot find any useful data. I've seen multiple quotes claiming 70% volume is okay for an hour or so. I normally listen at 17.5% using my K81DJ's (portable, closed) with my Meizu M6. That's 7/40...

How to replace AKG K81DJ cables?

I have the exact same issue with my K81s, and so does a friend of mine. The problem is in the jack; wriggling the cable and/or positioning it in different ways worked for some time, but does not any longer. I almost want to try the repair myself (it IS under warranty, but based on a thread...

Reliable closed, adjustable headset w/ mic - preferably under $40

I've got a friend who wants (reliability is important to him) a closed headset he can use to talk to people and maybe play games or listen to music. Adjustable mic, under $40 preferred but up to a max of $50 if there's something really nice. I've gotten quite a bit of info about regular...

    Fixing K81dj Minijack Short

I've a pair of k81dj headphones, which I love. The ribbed wiggly part of the 1/8 minijack failed and no longer works / connects. Rather then sending it to AKG and waiting for them to fix it, I was thinking it might be possible for myself to do. I don't necessarily want to do a full recable - I...

Laptop Integrated Sound w/ AKG-81's - is there any low price escape!?

I read the forum, I picked up a pair of AKG-81DJ's. A friend of mine also did the same. Music is now an entirely different thing then it was before. However! problem! Problem? Said friend has a laptop with integrated sound. Very, very bad integrated sound. Bad enough said friend now...
