Cheapest Android phone + DAC+amp combination
Hello, I want to buy a smartphone with Android which is not too expensive. I'm wondering if there are budget rigs you can recommend consisting of a basic smartphone and an external DAC with integrated headphone amp. I feel that the cheap smartphones' headphone outputs are always too noisy so a...- HughJazz

I ripped the cable out of my portapro by accident... anywhere to get a recable for cheap?
Well do you think that the manufacturer should cover it with its warranty when you rip out the cable? Put them up on ebay (or head-fi marketplace) for someone who can fix it and buy a new pair, that's what I would do.- HughJazz

Klipsch Image X10 vs UE 700
I got the UE700 yesterday and after some hours of use I can at least say that they handle Pink Floyd as well as In Flames. I don't know the Klipsch, but since the UE have two drivers whereas the Klipsch have one, so on the technical data sheet they are better (which does not mean they have to...- HughJazz

Distortion from Stax SR-5 with amp
Thanks for the reply. Can you name the exact type of amp you use? I found a lot of stuff from China and I don't know if I should trust these offers and connect the Stax phones to such an amp. Am I doing something wrong if I try to get a used Marantz PM series amp to replace the Technics SU600...- HughJazz

Distortion from Stax SR-5 with amp
Hello, I have used my Stax SR-5 with SRD6/SB connected to a Technics SU-600 Stereo amplifier after a longer period of not using them. Unfortunately, the sound is distorting, like heavy noise on vocals and bass (sounds like really bad/loud mastering X 10). I do not think that it's happening in...- HughJazz

Dynamic upgrade/complement to Stax SR-5
Hello bbophead, thanks for your reply! I'm not looking for something to replace the Stax phones. Unfortunately in Germany the Grado 325is cost 400€ (~ 520 US$). That is too much for me and possibly also too much for these headphones (?). Kind regards, Jonas- HughJazz

Dynamic upgrade/complement to Stax SR-5
Hello! My main rig consists of a Stax SR-5 with an SRD-6/SB and sometimes I'm wondering if there is something in the bass or "punch" department that I'm missing. I'm looking for dynamic headphones that have that punch but still not overpowering bass. The music I listen to is from...- HughJazz
