It doesn’t seem like the design has changed. If you’re careful they won’t break but I’ll put money on that they will. WAY earlier in this thread someone designed a replacement part for the headband and from my experience it worked great.

No, I actually just cut the wire. No, I haven't actually desoldered the wire from the terminals so it's still poking out of the cups. Once I do fully remove it I'm going to leave that hole open.

Well they look same as they did before except the pads don't touch when on my stand. As for sound... They are less mid forward than the stocks and have good treble reproduction and extention. Bass and sub-bass are similar to stock which is good. They still lack in the 2-3 kHz region, same as...

Okay another quick update. I modded the headband so the cups could swivel more forward and I think this helped the center image a fair bit. Nothing crazy but I love the space that these headphones have now. For anyone who is interested in what I'm doing here's a list on mods. Custom angled...

Update: I stretched the metal headband so the ear cups would rest lightly against my head instead of clamping down, deforming the pads. Plus, I also carved out more foam from the pads giving them a contoured fit. Results? Less bass bloat, great soundstage and less distortion in the mids...

Made a couple more changes to my modded Planar. Now I really like this mod. Most notable difference is the presentation of the vocals(1) and soundstage(2). The bass extension(3) is wider too but the stock Planar tends to sound more airy. 1: Vocals seem to blend into the mix better. I think...

Ah, I see what the issue was now. Yeah I'm actually buying a Hakko soldering station soon and I'm gonna rewire the headphone.

Make sure the cable is plugged in correctly. It's easy to get an improper connection if you're being too gentle.
