Maverick Audio TubeMagic D2 (Dedicated DAC) - Review, FAQ & Info Thread

I've had the Maverick Audio TubeMagic D2 DAC for a while and I've been going back and forth between using LM4562 Opamps and the OPA627 Opamps that came pre-upgraded with this unit (each two single OPA627 OpAmps on an adapter board to create a dual opamp). Each had it's pros and cons but neither...

Breathing new life into an "old" soundcard. Creative X-Fi Titanium HD

Here I have my trusty old X-Fi Titanium HD. I've owned it for about a decade now. It has been a great card for me that entire time. For a long time, I used it in my main computer. A couple of years ago I swapped from using the X-Fi Titanium HD in my main computer to using a regular X-Fi...

PC as a CD transport ?

Yes, when you hook up a DAC via USB, it basically becomes a USB soundcard. It will show up as an output device on your PC. As long as that output device is selected, the output will go to the DAC.

    Little Dot I+ Tube Rolling

I decided to try a Burson V6 Classic in my Little-Dot I+. My goal is to put them in my DAC but I don't have three of them yet, so I figured I might as well give it a whirl in my Little-Dot I+. I was happy with the results. Here is my little mini-review: History: A while back, when deciding...

Maverick Audio TubeMagic D2 (Dedicated DAC) - Review, FAQ & Info Thread

I have 2 opamps that I want to try (not three). I'm curious about trying them in my D2. I know that the D2 uses three and that it's recommended to replace all of them at the same time, but if I were to only replace 2, would that harm anything? The 3rd would either be a OPA627 or LM4562...

SB AE-9 vs X7? And PCI-E vs USB in general?

In my case, the Titanium HD is the what I use in the dedicated music PC I built for my 2-channel vintage stereo system. The Titanium HD is plugged into my Yamaha C-80 preamp (via the analog RCA outputs of course). I sometimes use the C-80 preamp to listen to headphones, as it has a fantastic...

SB AE-9 vs X7? And PCI-E vs USB in general?

Agreed. The ZxR is still a fantastic card with a fantastic DAC that is still supported by Creative with new driver releases. I still have an X-Fi Titanium HD in use that is even older, also still supported with new drivers. I used a PCI-E extension cable at one point. I used to run three GTX...

Maverick Audio TubeMagic D2 (Dedicated DAC) - Review, FAQ & Info Thread

The problem is that "better" is an incredibly subjective term. DACs have been around for almost 40 years at this point, and are a very mature technology now. There are no longer really any serious deficiencies that are "fixed" by upgrading to a newer model. That is why so many DACs these days...

WOW ... foobar with the kernel streaming plug in just blew my mind

Are you just going around bumping every thread ever made on this forum that mentions Kernel Streaming? The last post in this thread was over a decade old, before you bumped it. About 6 years before Windows 10 was even released, and only a few months after Windows 7 was released, meaning a lot...

Maverick Audio TubeMagic D2 (Dedicated DAC) - Review, FAQ & Info Thread

I realize that this thread is starting to show it's age now, but I am curious if you ever found out more info about that tube. Looks very similar to the one I got pre-installed with mine I finally got my D2 a few days ago. Then today my first set of tubes to roll arrived. I was able to find...

    Little Dot 2 Tube Question

I have a Little-Dot II+ which uses the same power tubes. I assume that your amp came with Chinese 4P1S/4P1S-J power tubes (the bigger tubes in the rear)? The only other power tube that I know of that will fit is the Russian 4P1L tube (Spelled 4П1Л in Russian). On my Little-Dot II+ it made the...

Those are Chinese 4P1S-J tubes.  Russian 4P1L tubes work also.

Help with SHN to FLAC Conversion

Foobar2000 can play those files via a plugin.  You can then use Foobar2000 to convert into WAV, or directly into FLAC if you have it setup.

Moving beyond the DT990 Pro 250ohm

I like my DT990 Pro 250ohm headphones a lot.  I've had them long enough that I'm on my 3rd set of velour pads now.  I power them using my Yamaha C-80 Preamp (~1984) and it works great.   I've built up my stereo over the years (mostly vintage components) to the point where it sounds quite good...

Is the Sound Blaster Z a worthy upgrade to the X-Fi XtremeMusic?

I believe I got mine for ~$90 from a fellow forum member, but $140 is still a good price compared to retail.  It should be a very substantial upgrade over your older X-Fi when it comes to music.
