Really? What about them did you not like?

OT: Help for a Science Fair Experiment

Take a look at this Maxim page. It describes a power saving circuit that applies a nominal voltage to trigger the relay and then lowers that voltage to keep it on economically. Pickup voltage is the minimum required voltage to turn it on. (So I think your data sheet should read "80% of...

Relays have a turn on voltage (required to actually pull the contacts closed) and a holding voltage, which is (gross estimate from memory) around 2/3 the turn on volts. So with a 6V relay, you'll need 4 AA's to start, and it will probably stay on until the batteries drain down to four volts...

    USB powered AlienDAC with CMoy

I've been pondering a similar problem. I'm not a big fan of split rails, but I think the simplest (and smallest, and lowest current drain) solution is to boost the 5V to 9V, split the rail, and cap couple the input from the dac. Or try mouser p/n 580-NMH0505SC The hardest part will be...

Taking advantage of Free PCB Boards - Morally OK?

Advanced? Been there, have taken advantage of that offer, and I plan to use them again when I start selling. Since you are asking the question, you probably already know it would be wrong if you don't plan to ever go there again. I say keep your consience clean. If you're lookig for a...

OT: Help for a Science Fair Experiment

OtterMarc probably has the best idea. A relay configured as described would consistently open at the same voltage....and open completely, stopping the clock dead. It's the simplest solution, it's likely to draw a couple hundred miliamps so it won't take forever to work, and with a few blinkey...

    premium resistors?

Here's a good rule for resistors in audio: Anything but carbon or thick film smd, and stay away from (inductive) wire wound. Period. Any form of metal or tantalum film will improve linearity and (more audibly) noise. Pay little heed to brand names, and concentrate on materials and technology...

You could also put a power resistor in paralel with the fan or motor. You can find blinking led's at mouser, digikey, maybe even rat-shack, or one of those pretty multi-color flashing LED novelty things people hang from earrings and other body piercings...(I'm sure there's a name for those...

Do they all have 4 conductor cables? i.e. are grounds separate all the way up to the connector?

Nice! Small indeed! What chip is that? will it drive 32 ohms? What are you using as a power supply and what kind of swing do you expect?

The base of The Mystic DAC is covered with a felt pad (made from blessed camel pubes... ) but here are pix of the first pyramid I broke while learning to sculpt marble with a chisel and dremel. Here is the board (from a previous post)
