Use ear plugs, some can reduce noise [road/wind noise, fan noise, tire noise, etc] by 30 dB. Turn the volume up to compensate, and enjoy the cheap, lower noise floor. I love it.

earplugs dont attenuate linearly, so the music that you hear beyond the earplugs wont be "flat".

That said, most car setups are probably pretty far from flat anyway

special earplugs are available that attenuate approximately linearly

I've always wondered about this. To me, it makes sense to be illegal to wear earplugs or headphones while driving, but then again, is that any more dangerous than having a REALLY loud stereo? What if you are deaf, are you not allowed to drive?
