Agreed. Of course some things affect it more than others. For what it's worth, the gs1000i has the biggest soundstage of the grado's I've tried, and it also places the drivers the furthest away from the ears. 

  I don't know. I've not had my rs1i for some time now and would need to A/B the phones to call out the variances.   I love the grado sound, but some of grado's phones have been too bright for me. To my memory, the rs2i, rs1i and GS1000i (as compared to the other grado phones I've had)...

Here's my 2 cents on the RS1e debacle...   I've owned the SR60, SR225, RS2, RS2i, RS1i, GS1000i, HF1 and HF2. The RS1i was the set I landed on before I quit headphones and sold them to fund other hobbies.    Getting back into headphones now so I decided not to mess around and went straight...

It's so hard to compare cans, even when they are all together in one room.  I've owned all the woody grados (currently own the GS1000i).  I loved them all.  One thing I've noticed is that pressing the cups on the GS1000i towards your ears makes a sound difference - the sound gets fuller and...

...I did, and they still haunt me, though the SR225s I just ordered should help me get along until I can afford them again...

I've got to be honest. Maybe there is something wrong with me, but I actually really like the redesign. And in my experience, when I shelled out for the RS-2s, the incredible sound outweighed any issues I might have had with the finish. Wish I still had them...

bend the headband until the clamping pressure is just right. I'm convinced some people's ears are shaped in such a way that Grados will never be comfortable for them. And some people (like me) have never experienced Grados being uncomfortable (lucky me).

I recommend Koss KSC75s - better sound than the Bose, very portable and comfortable, and $20!

hmmm...I'm guessing the K601 won't be warm enough for you. I would suggest trying a grado headphone. Perhaps the SR225? Great value, nice tight bass and dynamic sound. you'll have some money left over - they're $200 or less
