My very first set of phones. New to audio, and plan on upgrading. What can I expect? Any mods I can do to em?

I have some Sennheiser HD201's lined up for $15 on a computer forum I frequent. I am totally new to the audio thing, I am a PC guy. I'm kind of wanting to get in to audio, namely headphones, is this an OK place to start? I'm 17 and broke ATM, lol. Is there something better I can get...

A huge audio noob here, I am a total PC guy (here from Hardforum). Looking for a budget set of over the ear headphones. What is something good bang-for-buck around $20-$40? Should I check the For Sale section??
