I have some Sennheiser HD201's lined up for $15 on a computer forum I frequent.

I am totally new to the audio thing, I am a PC guy.

I'm kind of wanting to get in to audio, namely headphones, is this an OK place to start?

I'm 17 and broke ATM, lol.

Is there something better I can get for $20-$30?

You're at the place where audio gets so obsessive that you're constantly broke!

I hope to get there some day, as I have with my computer hobby.

Well, I would suggest you post the genres of music you listen to.
Also I would encourage people to start off with an entry level rig then at one shot go up to what you want finally. You'll save a lot of money from slowly upgrading bit by bit

Hmmm thanks. I don't have a set of phones currently, and I want some. And like I said, will upgrade later.

I listen to punk, alternative, and some rap.

Hmm... I can't really recommend anything because I don't really listen to those genres and well I'm more towards the portable side =X

I'm sure there'll be quite a number of people willing to help you ^.^

I'm 17 too, look where that's got me :p Anyways, that sounds like a decent value, although I'm not a big fan of those headphones. I would throw the extra money at PX100s or such, but again, that's me. Maybe take a look at KSC75s as well.

I want something bigger and more comfortable, most importantly over the head, which rules out the Koss's.

Doesn't look like anyone can help me out here so I think I'll just jump on the 201's or maybe something more like the 435's.

If you are strictly limited to $20 or $30, must buy new, and want something over the head, the HD 201 seems like a great choice to me.
