Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
Not to discourage you from trying, but you may not fully appreciate the benefits of the M Scaler unless you get a better streamer. You might even feel it does nothing or not worth the investment. Why not start from the source and get a better streamer first?- chelseafc

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
I had U2 but could not give it a proper listen as its toroidal transformer created extreme hum in my setup. Luxman is essentially U2 with a different (some say better) power supply. Its transformer is dead quiet. But my dealer got a sample of U2 and immediately signed a contract to carry the...- chelseafc

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
I tried it with SPDIF output to the M Scaler. Fiber or wired did not make much difference for me. It sounded inferior to Aurender N200 with all other things equal. But (luckily for me) my Aurender was bricked during the RAM replacement, so I was able to audition Luxman NT-07. That was by far the...- chelseafc

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
I just hope the new scaler will not open the garage doors like the HMS :-) That would make a bigger impact than adding a gazillion taps to the filter.- chelseafc

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
I totally agree with you. What is left under appreciated, in most setups that I've seen, is the physical proximity of the HMS to the DAC. In my case they are 15ft apart, and it is easy to hear the benefit of that "simple" change. i am familiar with your work (good for you!), in many ways what...- chelseafc

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
In fact, I’ve already ditched HMS-DAVE in favor of, please do not laugh, HMS-Mojo2 and never looked back. This combo retains all the benefits of the DAVE without maddening and frustrating sensitivities to seemingly anything that touches it. While not actively looking for alternatives, I...- chelseafc

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Thanks, but I am still on the fence. It is not a small change to pay for a product almost 10 years old. Plus, the company seems to be super niche and kind of stale, not sure they will be around for much longer. As good as it sounds, I want to make sure it will be worth something few years down...- chelseafc

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
OK, it is one man's opinion, this is why I asked for other first hand's impressions. I did not find Hans impressions resonating with mine, which is totally fine. What impressed me with the Tambaqui is that it sounded phenomenal right out of the box, with a PC power cable and no network...- chelseafc

Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
My experience is different. I found the USB on both M Scaler and DAVE is inferior to the SPDIF inputs, both optical and BNC. I do use the USB from the streamer to the GAIA DDC which does an excellent job providing a clean SPDIF output to the M Scaler. The difference is significant enough for me...- chelseafc

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
I am curious if anyone here could share impressions from comparing Mola Mola Tambaqui to the Mscaled DAVE? In my setup Tambaqui sounds better, more musical but without losing any details that DAVE is known for. It is very engaging (reminded me Linn Selekt DSM). In case of Linn, its "engagement"...- chelseafc

I’d be very surprised. If you send an 8K video to an HD monitor, you sill get an HD quality. May not be the best analogy, but you got the point :-).- chelseafc

Both of my hi-fi local dealers tell me that the more expensive stuff sells better nowadays. There is no surprise then that most of the clientele is over 60 years old. One of them said that South Asia and China are dictating these trends to the manufacturers.- chelseafc
