[I need advice] Closed back headphone with a V shaped sound, and energic treble?
maybe look at Fostex th-600 / denon ah-d5000 then ? they have slightly more bass than the d7000 and are really less expensive than th900. If you want more portable, V-Moda M100 with the bigger pads could be a good option.- cannibalox

have you checked on innerfidelity ? there are reviews of the soloist and lake people g109 that may be of interest. they also have some measurements of the hd160 here : http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/121105_blog_update_FirstAmpTests.pdf also during my search for a SS amp, I've read...- cannibalox

I've never heard a V90 so I can't comment on this model. you can probably expect the same build and finish as the v100/v200 : german quality, very solid, no moving parts, very nice finish (not like luxury/shiny stuff though, more like professional grade. Imo, the finish and overall build...- cannibalox

Dgiant > I think you've made a wise decision by returning the Lyr... Now if you want a SS amp, I'd recommend a Violectric V100 or V200 over the Burson ha160.- cannibalox

I think the OP did the right move. The driver distorsion shown in the video should not be considered to be normal operation and is definitely not a sign of 'quality' in my book, but to each his own. If your amps display the same behavior, I'd also advise you to return them, but I doubt your...- cannibalox

Focal Spirit One Headphones
+2 for the asking price, they are rather unimpressive. I had another listen to these recently as I was looking for a portable to replace my IEM's (senn IE8). I ended up with a $50 JVC S500 that sounds way better for much less money.- cannibalox

Denon 5000 vs. Denon 7000
makes me wonder how much influence the revisions had on the tonality of the Denon lineup. Anyone got more infos on what actually changed during the years ? how would a recent d5000 compare to an older model ? I used to consider the d5K as the sweet spot. I was an early adopter and at the...- cannibalox

Focal Spirit One Headphones
maybe good for you yes :) I'd rather have 'hot' treble and EQ them down if needed, but I appreciate the d5000 highs as-is. I don't hear them as 'ringing' / unpleasant but I can understand why it could be bothering to some. in comparison, the Focals almost sound muffled, but they are clearly...- cannibalox

Focal Spirit One Headphones
after a quick test run in a french shop, I'm fairly disappointed with these headphones. I was expecting much more from Focal (my main loudspeakers are Focal 826W 30th anniversary ed). Basically, I think they are just average closed cans. It sounds average and it looks average. The web...- cannibalox

AH-D5000 bad bass response
just a thought as you're using a SB Live 5.1 : are you sure you are playing in stereo and there is no crossover redirecting the bass to a subwoofer out ? The lack of bass punch you describe seem very weird to me. and I don't think you should have to rely on EQ to get decent / good / amazing...- cannibalox

Denon AH-(D5000 primarily)7000 or 2000 owners
Just checked on my d5000+violectric v200 and didn't get any weird tapping noise (then again, I didn't have any organ tracks available, I just made a similar frequency sound in Reason). do you hear it on both channels or only left/right ? if it's only one channel, I'd say it could be hair or...- cannibalox

Denon AH-D7000
I heard d2k and d5k were suposed to share the same drivers and maybe other parts, but to my ears, there was definitely a big improvement when going from d2000 to d5000 : much better bass, cleaner midrange and highs. overall it sounded a whole lot better, really noticeable on my rig. The...- cannibalox

Looking for a dedicated source for MP3/FLAC - not interested in PC + DAC / Squeezebox
you're welcome, I was also looking for a dedicated transport at one point but ended assembling a HTPC. the lack of lossless and network was a deal breaker for me. Still if you ever order the Brennan unit, I'd be interested to get your feedback on it. also if you stumble on another...- cannibalox

have you considered the Brennan JB7 ? this could be what you're looking for, basically a hard drive + cdp in a small case with a display. It can't stream music and can't store FLAC though (also it's a bit expensive for what it does imo, but at least it looks good) http://www.brennan.co.uk/- cannibalox

Violectric HPA V200 Why not sufficiently appreciated??
I got mine a couple of weeks ago. ordered through Thomann, mine didn't have the USB dac included. It's definitely an improvement over my XCan V8p (using a d10 as dac). The soundstage seems wider and deeper. Overall, it's cleaner and more involving. The first day, I thought there was a...- cannibalox
