got a new music cd, in bluray format. how to listen on highest quality ?
We still need some clarification on the software situation here. He's got an internal BR drive, but what media players, if any, are going to support BR audio discs? I Googled it and the results were inconclusive. edit - this thread details a rather elaborate (read: PITA) method: And then if...- boiledelephant

As much as people who plug expensive headphones into the onboard analog output on a desktop computer's motherboard. Look, it honestly doesn't matter to me what you do. Do what you please and enjoy your music. But I want to tell you one basic fact I discovered when I bought my first decent...- boiledelephant

I'll forego the usual "waste of money, placebo effect, hi-res audio is snakeoil" comments (which I admit jumped into my head), because it's rude and beside the point. More power to you if you think you need blu-ray audio. Googling about doesn't reveal any audio playback software promising to...- boiledelephant

Sorry to necro but I just had to say for posterity and dignity's sake, that video is complete bunkum and pseudoscience, and it's embarrassing to have it in any thread on this forum. Even a dead thread. That's all.- boiledelephant

Philips Fidelio X2?!
For the record, there have now been several reports in this thread - some recent, some historic - of a L/R imbalance in certain frequencies, normally bass. These correspond exactly with descriptions I've seen on two separate eBay auctions of X2 headphones in which the seller openly states that...- boiledelephant

Philips Fidelio X2?!
I'm not sure the Lightning->USB->DAC setup would even work, is an Apple phone gonna support an external third party DAC? It's a pretty specific device. They're plug and play on Windows computers but I dunno about Apple computers, much less phones. You'd want to have someone on record saying...- boiledelephant

Philips Fidelio X2?!
I presume mine is too, but to be perfectly honest, I've always been a bit 'hmmm' about the output levels. Like maybe it was a duffer. It works well enough for my purposes, but on the K702s I need it past the 2 o'clock position on high gain setting to get comfortable. Maybe that's just the k702s...- boiledelephant

Philips Fidelio X2?!
Ooh, someone linked to the blog which must not be named! I thought things were going to get exciting for a moment there :) It was absolutely ages ago that all that stuff kicked off, my understanding is that it was only against rules to bring it up again, basically - that because discussions...- boiledelephant

Wired Headphones is Dead the future is wireless
S'alright, by definition I doubt any of us are in a terrible rush or concerned with brevity. I get Viqor's point but I also think bfreedma's point trumps it. The only real limitation is how small and efficient you can make an amp, how well you can isolate a DAC against interference, and how...- boiledelephant

Philips Fidelio X2?!
+1 thank you for this info, it certainly correlates with the way my older audiophile friends approach headphones and monitors, i.e. buying several on ebay over time, gambling each time on getting one that performs slightly closer to their ideal sound. One chap I know owns about 5 pairs of the...- boiledelephant

Philips Fidelio X2?!
So basically they're making silent upgrades to these things every time they build a new batch, and not distinguishing between them on the customer end? That's pretty annoying. I'd like to know what I'm buying.- boiledelephant

Wired Headphones is Dead the future is wireless
I'm pretty new here, but why not? Surely a high enough bitrate and a stable enough connection would make the two literally identical to human senses? Or is it just that you can't get the kind of bandwidth on a wireless connection that you need to replicate CD quality? (Freely admit I don't know...- boiledelephant

Subwoofer, it is on-topic, don't worry. And it isn't impossible, and I for one won't say that it's impossible - history tends to make fools of people who confidently assert what cannot happen. But based on what we do know so far, the odds of it being caused by EM wireless signals are very low -...- boiledelephant

They've appeared on an Amazon UK Warehouse deal for £108, but I'm really really wary - I've heard very mixed things about Warehouse Deals, and the Warehouse 'seller' account on Amazon Marketplace has like 86% positive feedback -_-- boiledelephant
