    Focal Elear - Impressions Thread

You should definitely consider the Fostex TH900 as well. The bass is super lovable and not totally blown out like you may have heard. They are semi open but have a lot of the sound characteristics of open cans. In a couple of days I'll have my Elear in hand and will finally be able to do a...

Looking for a good sub $300 pair of phones

I'll just add that if you care about noise isolation at all I'd discount the D2000s (although I love them).   If you can find a pair online the Superlux Hd668bs might be a good choice.  They are a bit bright but offer the best isolation of the phones I currently have.  I think their mids are...

    Koss Portapro Thread

I currently own two pair.  One is just a backup in case I need to send the first back for a replacement.   They have such an amazing, airy realness that I have found lacking in much more expensive equipment.  They will still surprise me occasionally while I'm listening to something.  I'll be...

Head-Fi Talks New Headphones At CES 2012 With Tekzilla!

It's a shame that such a well-informed segment couldn't have appeared on a more mainstream show.  I really enjoyed the back and forth more than the typical head-fi or innerfidelity one man plus camera videos that I'm used to.  I know it sounds weird, but it makes a person seem less "crazy" when...

    hd25-1 impressions thread

This thread has got me pretty lusty after the hd25s.  Now that I've heard about the new Amperiors though I wonder if it would be better to wait?  Has anyone tried them yet to compare?   Also the Sennheisers I've tried in the past have all had a definite lack in the high end department.  I...

    FiiO E11 & E11K & A3 Information + Support

I thought I'd chime in that the build quality on my e11 turned out to be pretty suspect.  I had the input jack go squirrely on me after about a month.  Now if I knew anything about electronics repair I could probably bend it back in to shape on the internal side, but being ignorant and lazy I...

    Unamped Sennheiser HD 598

I've heard the 598s with the e11 and i think it made an appreciable difference in quality.  The burn-in effect was negligible for me, though.  I ended up returning the phones but it was definitiely a difficult decision (made slightly easier by the excellent Denon D2000s).

Got the D2000's.. upon further inspection I figured out why I don't like them..

I'll add that the d2000s had no appreciable burn-in to my ears.  They did benefit from more substantial amping though.  I went from a fiio e11 to a headstage arrow and the difference was noticeable.  Maybe you'd rather have a bass heavy phone though?

    Denon D2000 crush my head

Do you wear glasses?   I've found that the D2000s are exceptionally comfortable except when I'm wearing glasses.  They typically spread the pressure out pretty evenly over the surface of those huge pads, but if you add two ridges from glasses frames it will pinpoint all the pressure and get...

    Filling a Specific Headphone Need

To Tacoboy:   Don't be sorry about the recommendation.  I think they're very nice and I didn't pay much for them.  I just don't think I'll be able to use them for an awful long time.  I considered the pad replacement as you suggested, but I think I might rather use that money toward a nicer...

    Filling a Specific Headphone Need

Well I've got some impressions/updates/purchase info for you all now, and a new decision.   Well I have since received the AD900s and put them (and me) through their paces.  The mids of these unitsso far represent the best sound I've yet heard from a headphone.  I had a really great...

    Filling a Specific Headphone Need

Quote:   I will totally post back with impressions.  I'm very curious to see my reaction to them based on the highest-fi headphones/speakers I've heard in the past is.  I'm imagining less bassy but more presence than my sony mdr-v600s I picked up years ago and I'm hoping for more...

    Filling a Specific Headphone Need

Thanks again for the help, all.  Reading a bit about the Superlux HD-668B definitely made those looks tempting but I'd be concerned about the clamping force over the many hours.   I ended up biting the bullet and ordering some AD900s.  I think they should provide all the comfort I'm looking...

    Filling a Specific Headphone Need

Thanks for the quick response, guys!  While I slept the head-fi fairies visited me with some wisdom.   Quote: Thanks for the flurry of recommendations.  I tried a set of my friend's lower end (~$90) Sennheiser closed back phones last night and they had an extremely strong clamping...
