    Onkyo DP-S1 Rubato / Pioneer XDP-30R Private

My DP-S1 also just found this new release - identified as 1.33/21527AEO after updating via Wi-Fi. I guess the last character O is for Onkyo and P for Pioneer. I could not yet find this update on the Onkyo update site either. I also have no idea what's different at this stage. It may just be...

I am sure that's a significant understatement. If you took 100 random phone users in a supermarket (for instance) probably way less than 1% would ever consider having a separate player for music. The simple fact is, for the average consumer, a modern phone already has far better audio...

@auronthas - Also see my post above - I am not sure that the update to 1.32 actually gets applied by the player (mine doesn't and another member's player doesn't). 1.30 seems completely fine so would I not not worry too much. And yes, TIDAL was not included (or maybe included but disabled) in...

I never managed to get that build to install. Looking at the files and the files for the previous builds, I noticed that the file naming is different. All the previous versions used the file name DAP0001_E0.xxx - but the build marked 1.32 uses a filename ONKDAP0002_E0.xxx. The files may be...

That sounds like a good deal to me. My advice though is only try to change the battery if you are confident around electronics. I will do mine as and when it becomes necessary, but so far no issues. If the unit has not been heavily used and provided that the battery has been kept moderately...

Is yours a unit bough in Japan, or just possibly a grey import originally sourced from Japan? These do not have TIDAL enabled as far as I know. TIDAL is always present in the binary, but it's not possible to enable it if it's locked out.

It's not been necessary yet. When it is, it's not too hard to get the back off. The battery is a standard lithium polymer device - nothing exotic - and simply needs to be of approximately the correct size, voltage and capacity. The battery is located under a bunch of shielding which may...

The DP-S1 handless gapless very well in my experience. I mostly listen to FLAC, but I am very critical where gapless playback is concerned and have no complaints. No gaps, no pops or clicks. Someone else may be able to comment regarding DSD, etc.

Thanks. Amused by your reaction to my age. The way I look at it - I started being an electronics geek in the mid 1970s - still am. It helps keep me young. :smile_phones:.

Maybe. Depends how you measure value of stuff like this in this crazy world.... When I listened to the LS200is IEMs I tried both cables and the difference between balanced and unbalanced was very clear to me with a wider and clearer soundstage with the balanced cable. I got the Audio Technica...

It sounds like the ones that you heard were either faulty or possibly even not genuine? I find the sound very well balanced, and certainly not thick in any sense. But what convinced me above all else was the amazing sound-stage. With the supplied cable it is pretty good. With the balanced...

I wouldn't part with mine either. I couldn't relate to your earlier post, but I really love this player. And I find it really good on long journeys - currently paired with Audio Technica ATH-LS200IS with the AT balanced cable...

I would put all of the files on the SD card and let the player decide what it should do. Alternatively, if you have a reliable WiFi and internet connection, connect the player to your WiFi and let the player do the update on line. It's what I do and seems a reliable method. I would ensure...

I had the Plenue D. I sold it shortly after buying the DP-S1. The Onkyo is streets ahead in terms of presentation and imaging. The UI is also better, especially with the more recent firmwares. Then of course you have a second memory slot in the DP-S1. Battery life is the better on the D, but...
