If you are gentle you can peel off the peeling leather as I did, the inner foam still has a fabric cover so you can very gently rub off all the dry, flakey leather and you can end up with a real nice very dark grey fabric finish.

A second hand Marantz HD-Dac1 would be a decent option.

Just be careful you are not being played. Usually if something is too good to be true it is because it is. I've been there, as will many others on this thread no doubt. Great headphones but Buyer Beware, do your due diligence on the seller before you part with your money. £100 is a steal.

I use them and they're great, really comfortable and the sound is fine.

Apologies in advance, I know some folks here will know this, but If you're UK based does it simply become uneconomical to buy from Drop (US), ship to the UK and pay Import Duty (?), handling/processing fee and 20% VAT. Maybe I've answered my own question. If it is an HD8xx, at what price point...

I've done that now thanks. The unit is second/third hand and otherwise works fine so I wouldn't ship away for repair. I can live with it if I have to but would be hopeful that a factory reset might sort it.
