Are tube amps always "warm"?
In my case absolutely not. When I say warmth it is to describe a bump in the upper part of the bass range. It sound pleasant to the ear, but is not really good Hifi. Whereas some seem to use the term for muted transients in the bass range - which I do not find preferable at all. From your...- Aanta

Tube rolling 'Darkvoice' La Figaro 336 classic.
The Jolida is a very nice CD player for the price, correctly tuberolled it is lively, musical and a match for quite more expensive players. I don't have a limitless account for sound gear, so everything I do is a compromise anyway - and the purchase of this CD player certainly was exactly that...- Aanta

Tube rolling 'Darkvoice' La Figaro 336 classic.
I just have an Advance acoustics MCD-203 and a Jolida JD200. The Advance is a hybrid, while Jolida is one of the few that got all tube output plus a rectifier. Yes two CD's, I cant part from the Advance - it's not perfect in any way but it's so bloody musical, and it got balanced outputs. Even...- Aanta

6SN7 Tube Addicts
Hello Markus you are absolutely right about that. I was hesitant to post at all actually but without any reply I decided to give an opinion at least. Sadly now afterwards those Shuguang is the ones hardest to identify with certainty. But I can confirm it was not the Treasure series, which I...- Aanta

6SN7 Tube Addicts
I have heard Shuguang tubes, but never brought anyone back home and done any A/B test and so might be nothing more than an opinion. Anyway, treble is ok in the Shuguang without shining in any way, midrange is thick and I guess some will consider this to be 'presence' as they will lift a singer...- Aanta

Who misses speakers?
I just listened to a complete album on my ELAC speakers for the first time in a week. And just as Jon said, speakers add vibrations and there's a soundstage that headphones have trouble to reproduce. And even though I use my cans for detailed listening, I noted details that for some reason...- Aanta

Dark Voice 336SE with low impedance headphones ?
Oh yes that's true, and could be part of the story if connected to a tube amp. The pair I got is Beyerdynamic custom studio, those are 80 ohm. My standard issue and the ones I am all but married to is AKG 601 that got 120 Ohms. Now lets go into the not so nice details, Beyerdynamic got closed...- Aanta

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
Those small ELAC need a bit of air yes, on a desk cluttered with monitor, printer and whatever they're not in their optimal space. And I say this even though I am a die hard ELAC fan. Stay away from Debut, they have made a serious error with that new line of speakers. Other brands mentioned...- Aanta

Dark Voice 336SE with low impedance headphones ?
Hello again. The choice all depend on what music he listen to. The Darkvoice actually have the ability to 'lift' average cans to a nice listening pleasure. Montezero just said what I had in mind here. Beyer Dynamic gives a lot of boom for the buck with their lower priced models. Suitable for...- Aanta

Tube rolling 'Darkvoice' La Figaro 336 classic.
I got the updated Darkvoice model, the La Figaro 336 'classic'. I knew from the start that the original tubes were far from adequate, in fact nearly any tube amp is a DIY job to get it right. (With the exception for a few super expensive headphone amps.) So swapping tubes is a good idea better...- Aanta

Who here likes a flat frequency response?
My preference is actually go for gear and tubes where the music swing and live, over flat frequency response. So my gear is not very linear, and not 'HiFi' per definition.- Aanta

Dark Voice 336SE with low impedance headphones ?
Yes it doesn't matter if you swap tubes if the headphones got the wrong impedance from the start. For serious tube listening we prefer NOT to have a transformer between the headphone amp and our ears. One trafo would make it possible to use low impedance phones though. The whole point is to...- Aanta

LeeSound Darkvoice 6N5P+6N11
I had a look and it definitely is a clone using the Darkvoice brand to sell it. At a lower price point it might be worth the boucs. :gs1000smile: The very open design concern me a little bit though.- Aanta

Your Album of the Month
Great start on this thread, starting with Tool, 10 000 days. It is hard to find anything to match that, but there are a few metal albums in the same class. Third Moon, Sworn Enemy Heaven is one of the select few that qualify IMO. And since the group is relatively unknown, I add them as a... -
Reply to review by 'aanta' on item 'AKG K 702 Headphones'
Yes that's my impression also of the AKG 702, 701 and 601. All are little lean on the bass. Yes I mention all 3 up there, I hear very little difference between them with just a tiny bit less soundstage for the 601, and a small dip in the higher mid also for the 601 that is surprising to find in...- Aanta
