Tung-Sol 5998's and a Ken-Rad 6SL7GT in my Singlepower Extreme.

The 5998's are legendary, and with good reason. The Ken-rad 6SL7GT is an amazing sounding tube as well, and they make a great pair.

Sky, you will be interested in this one. A RCA 6EV7 for gain into two RCA 6AS7G's in my Extreme. The 6EV7 has the same pinout as a 6CG7/6GU7 and uses the ECC TYPE #2 adapter. This tube looks very similar to the 6GU7 but has a much higher gain; gain = 60.

NJ7P Tube Database Search
6EV7
High-Mu Twin Triode
Base & Bulb ( RCA RC-27 - 1973)

Substitute Data
Substitutes ................................... 6FQ7 6GU7 Application
Miniature type used as a relay control tube. Requires miniature 9-contact socket.

The 6EV7 is definitely good. The sound is very similar to the RCA 6GU7. But, the 6EV7 seems to have more treble extension and slightly more dimensionality. The sound has excellent clarity. I think you would like this tube. Some reading this would say this tube sounds to cold and analytical

.... but the sound still has body and tone despite the excellent clarity.
