Dust cover for headphones?
Hi there, It's been a while since I've posted, but I was wondering if anyone here could point me in the direction of a dust cover for my headphones. I have PS1k's and an Auralic Gemini, which is a headphones stand itself, so I've never bothered getting any sort of storage box for my cans, but...- TimSchirmer

CanJam SoCal 2022 Impressions Thread (September 17-18, 2022)
I just put some Tin Pan Alley on Totally agree. A standardized set of reference gear would give be so useful at these events. Comparing two flagship headphones on the same $1000 dac is better than hearing two different headphones on two different $4000 dacs as that eliminates the possibility...- TimSchirmer

CanJam SoCal 2022 Impressions Thread (September 17-18, 2022)
I'm sad that I can't make it this year. Probably best to avoid upgrade temptation. Has anything dethroned the Stax SR-009's yet? Is there an X9000 there? The RAALs also look interesting. This conference/expo vibe feels quite different from the old residental meetup vibe of years past.- TimSchirmer

Qobuz Lossless Streaming Service Thread
I just cancelled my Tidal subscription. I had made some great playlists, but noticed that a bunch of my songs started graying out because Tidal wasn't paying the licenses. Sorry, but I'm literally paying them for access to that music. If they want to delete my beloved classics to add even MORE...- TimSchirmer

coffee-fi
Okay, so I have a little contribution here. As many of you know, my second home is Colombia. I just returned with some amazing coffees from the Sierra Nevada mountains such as Finca Tawa, Divino de la Sierra, Mina Rica and Cafe San Rafel. One of the bigger issues finding coffees from Colombia...- TimSchirmer

Rega Brio R / Chord Mojo Dac / Q Acoustics 3020 - disappointing !
I think the speakers are the weak link in this chain. You are using $300 speakers with over 1k of upstream gear. Try to budget about 50% on speakers and 50% on source/amplification in a passive setup or 75% on speakers if it's an active (powered speaker) setup. Honestly If it were me, as...- TimSchirmer

TOTL disappointments
Yep, it's why I never believe anything from the audio press or self-proclaimed audio gurus. It's in the industry's interest to keep us all constantly "upgrading". Usually one page of head-fi meet or RMAF impressions is far more valuble than hundred page threads fluffing the latest flavor of the...- TimSchirmer

Any old fart head-fi'ers still around?
I'm kind of shocked to learn that I just had my 20-year head-fi anniversary in november! I ended up keeping an Auralic Gemini and Grado PS-1000's simply because the combo not only sounds great together, but also looks great together which obliterates the temptation to upgrade, which is more of a...- TimSchirmer

TOTL disappointments
One of the reasons I rarely post here is having to sift through a bunch of glowy review bs to find real opinions from people who haven't been paid or given free gear to write reviews. If I wanted that sort of nonsense I'd subscribe to What Hifi.- TimSchirmer

Any old fart head-fi'ers still around?
I'm still around! My audio upgradeitis has been gone ever since ICEpower/Hypex class D amps have come around. I'll always be grateful for the head-fi FOTM cycle which gets me great forgotten/overlooked gear for peanuts.- TimSchirmer

LG V50 ThinQ Smartphone
I am hesitant to buy another LG phone. I have the LG G8, and I bought it thinking it could do double duty as a DAP, but they have this completely idiotic feature which reduces the output volume on lower impedence phones, which you can supposedly get around by using a short headphone jack...- TimSchirmer

Monster HTS 5100: any opinions?
I have one and it made a pretty nice improvement in my speaker system. I don't think the speaker sound any different but the subwoofers definitely seems to benefit. There is a difference and it's more significant than what you'll get by upgrading cables for sure. -

Where to start?
This might be overkill, but lately I'm using a node 2 to the RCA inputs of a Headroom Maxed out Home (Headroom stuff is a great deal now) and the results are excellent. I have a powernode 2i driving my silverline speakers with another regular Node 2 going to the headphone amplifier. It's nice to...- TimSchirmer

Headroom Maxed Out Home screw size question.
Hello, I recently did some ground loop hum investigating on this amp and stripped several of the case screws. Does anyone more saavy than myself have any idea what size they are or where I can find a replacement? I couldn't find any info in the manuals. All help is much appreciated!- TimSchirmer

Grado PS 1000
I just got a pair. I already like them more than my old GS1000's. I'm coming from a Koss ESP-950 and bought them as kind of a side grade since I wanted something I could easily plug into my laptop (and my Benchmark DAC-1 without having an additional black box).- TimSchirmer

AKG K340 Electrostatic Phones
What are people powering these with lately? They sounded decent enough out of my Benchmark Dac1, which I've since sold. I have the feeling they need even more power. I want to hear them with something insane like these old headroom blockheads on eBay that keep tempting me. It's just too much to...- TimSchirmer

Thoughts on a bunch of DACs (and why R2R kind of sucks - just to get you to think about stuff)
If we are talkin about anything under 1500 or so I would just go with a benchmark and call it a day.- TimSchirmer
