    ALO Rx and HE-5

Me and a friend did a little try out last weekend, ALO Rx + Hifiman HE-5 Ortho. It's a bit crazy, I know.. but it just goes to show that the ALO Rx had what it takes to drive the current hungry HE-5 (which is heavy even by desktop amp standards) with no distortion. The Rx also drove an AKG...

XLR Out into 2x RCA signal?

On my CEC CD5300, there is an XLR out. I wonder if I can take that XLR signal, and supply 2 single ended amplifiers using it? So I would make an interconnect with XLR jack on one end, and the 2 sets of RCAs on the other end? The signal would go out from the CDP like this: L+, L-, L ground...

    HD600 & HD650 Interchange Driver?

From what I've been reading, the HD600 and 650 driver and housing are interchangeable, right? HD600 driver into 650 housing, and/or 650 driver into 600 housing? I'm thinking of obtaining a HD600 driver so I can "roll" driver with my HD650.

Can the Buffalo DAC compete with Hi-End DACs?

Just curious if anyone has ever compared the Buffalo DAC with some $2000++DACs.. How good is the Buffalo, really?

    4 Boards Beta22

So the Beta 22 is still not finished... Initially I wanted to build a 3 boards, but now I pretty much have a balanced source (CEC 5300), a really good balanced interconnect (Transparent Musiclink Plus), and the only thing missing is add one board on the Beta 22, and another sigma board + toroid...

Beta 22 and Sigma 22 Case dimensions

I'm about to order the case for my Beta22, but i haven't gotten the parts all complete yet. I know that the best thing is probably to wait until they're all assembled, then I'll have a good idea of the size I need.. however, I'm a bit impatient, and I kinda want the case to arrive by the time I...

Do you read through multiple pages of posts?

5 pages is probably the maximum for me. Anymore than that (i.e HD800 thread), and I'll just read page 1 and last page. Anybody else like me?

    336 CDs CD Case!!!

Gosh I've never been so excited about a CD case. I've been using a standard 50-cds Caselogic that I bought about 15years ago (boy, they do last a long time!). As my collection grew, I often want to play some CD, but I don't have it in my case and I'm too lazy to dig it up. Just about a few...

    CEC CD5300 Balanced out

I read a few threads on balanced set-ups, and I found out that not all sources with balanced analog out are "truly balanced". I just want to know if the CEC CD5300 has a true balanced out. It does have 2xBurrbrown 1796 DAC chips running in dual-mono, if that means anything. Here's a shot...

    Beta 22 Parts Selection

I've purchased almost all the parts from AMB shop, and now I'm left to the capacitors, volume control, RCA, and a headphone jack. I'm just wondering how fancy do people get with these parts. Especialy the Volume control and RCA jacks can get very very expensive. How much difference say a good...

    Cable choices for AKG 501

Any advice for recabling AKG 501? I really love the sound signature, and don't really want to change it.. The super thin original cable just seems very flimsy, and want to replace it. thanks.

Help me to make an Introduction Email

I'm trying to send my photography portfolio to new creative directors, and I'm having writers block on how to start the email.. Something that is fresh, not boring, SHORT, and doesn't sound like a spam? I'm also scared that if I write something that, I may think it sounds good, but sounds...

Graham Slee Voyager. Auditioned it today.

I had the chance to audition the Voyager today, and just want to say that it's a Low Gain amp that sounds really smooth. I loved how it sounds on the MS-Pro.. I think sound character wise, it's a very strong synergy. However, the downside is the low-gain.. I had it around 75% to 100% volume for...

Does the state of the Economy puts a stop on your Head-Fi hobby?

I know I am.. last year I purchased MS-Pro and AKG K501 (for $300!), but this year, no Sony SA5000 for me.. maybe the 2nd half of 2009 can be a little better. BTW, why are there no Grado Smilies on the smililies menu?

    AKG K66 Anyone?

I listened to the K66 a couple of times in CD stores (many music stores seem to use this model), and although I can't directly compare the sound cause those stores don't play the songs I listen to, but briefly they seem to sound clear and neutral.. I did a search on the K66 and found no...

Why no headphone amp from the big guys?

Sennheiser, Sony, AKG, Denon, etc.. why don't they make any amps? (except for special headphones like the Orpheous, which needs special amps to drive them) Grado has the RA1, but it really isn't what you'd call a serious amp.

The negative side of having an opened ear.

I find that once your ear knows what a good sound is, I don't have total freedom in choosing my music anymore. A lot of the songs in my playlist have to be both "my kind of song" AND "nicely recorded". i.e I can't bear listening to even good songs that have less than superb recording...

Ipod Touch 2g is very very impressive!

After a very long readhttp://www.head-fi.org/forums/f15/si...thread-361975/, I decided to get the cheaper 8g version. Now for the impression: The Touch is very very impressive. First of all the sound quality IMO is better than my Sony 818 on Ety 4s and Ms Pro. The Soundstage does feel 10%...

    Sony A818 Matrix Surround

I just reconfirmed today that the Matrix Surround mode on the A818 brings new life to my Ms-Pro.. Sure it adds a hiss to the sound, and the purist will probably never do this mode, but who cares? It's all about musical enjoyment, and the Matrix Surround mode makes me feel like I'm sitting right...

    Shuffle 1st Gen: Finally

I've been reading so much posts confirming the 1st gen shuffle having "the best headphone out".. and so when I got my hand on one of these today, I was so excited.. got home, put some WAVs into it, and play it... tried it straight plugged to Alessandro MS Pro and also the AKG 501. Playing...

    Ditching Ms-Pro, what's next?

After owning the Ms Pro for two months now, and lots of hours of listening and burning in (100+ burn, 100+ listen), I have to admit that I'm forcing myself to like this phone, but actually, I don't. I loved the SR60 grado, it's very enjoyable, musical, but I didn't like the highs on those. So...

    Regular amps for headphones

I've never used an amp with my MSPRO before.. this afternoon I tried my father's ADCOM amp, with a source out of an iPod shuffle. Now I know it's not the best combination, but what I was surprised was how much difference in the sound there was, and this was with a regular amp. The amp didn't...
