Ideas for high end home headphone rack setup
I’m looking to have a home headphone rack built and looking for ideas. I’m working with a local wood worker who builds audio racks as a side business and trying to figure out a design. My drive for this is my desire to be able to move my high end headphone rig around at home between bedroom...- RHMMMM

MSB Reference Headphone Amp Review or Impressions?
There is a thread here about the Select electrostatic amp, but it’s hard to find any info or reviews on the Reference amp for dynamic headphones. I’m upgrading my Premier DAC to a Reference and am curious about the matching headphone amp. Any info appreciated, thanks!- RHMMMM

Recommend me some new headphones, currently have HD650's
Hey all, I'm currently looking for some new headphones: closed or isolation-based. Like the title says, I have a pair of HD-650's right now...used to have some Sony MDR-CD3000's, but they're long gone. I love the way the HD650's sound (smooth, not harsh or bright) and would like to get something...- RHMMMM

Getting a PowerBook - is the sound good enough?
Hey guys, I'm going to be getting a 15" PB when they hit the next iteration in a month or so. Is the built-in sound good enough? Are there any PCMCIA cards that will workin Macs? I don't really want to lug around a USB soundcard....but what good USB soundcards are there that work with Mac...- RHMMMM

Headphone brand <--> Speaker brand comparison
I haven't really seen a thread like this before, so I figured I would start one and see everyone's thoughts on this subject. Of course, it's most definitely a subjective, personal, and opinionated topic, so don't yell at me if you disagree. I figure that headphones are a great start in the...- RHMMMM

Expensive Aftermarket Power Cables - Why?
I don't understand why people upgrade the power cables for their audio equipment. Out of all the upgrades, wouldn't this be the least worthwhile? Out of the miles and miles of power cable that runs to your house, why would changing the last 3 feet or so make any difference at all? Wouldn't...- RHMMMM

Anyone know when the new Sony's are coming out?
Just wondering if anybody "in the know" had a rough idea of when the next Sony's are supposed to come out - the ones that were posted about a few weeks ago?- RHMMMM

Problem with STEPS - something died
I built a STEPS a few months ago and it has been running fine, plugged in 24x7 for ~4 months and all of a sudden yesterday, it just stopped working. I need some help as I'm not *that* good with diagnosing problems with my own DIY electronics, but I was able to build both the PPA and STEPS so...- RHMMMM

What are the dimensions/location of panel cutouts for STEPS in Hammond Case?
I knew I saw it somewhere, but I need to know the dimensions of the cutouts for the IEC power socket (with the fuse holder) on the Hammond Case for the STEPS. I found someone nice enough to do the case drilling for me and now I can't find a panel drawing to show where the cutouts should go...- RHMMMM

Who can I go to for getting a panel punched for my STEPS?
Hey guys- I have been 95% done with a STEPS for a few months and finally got the last parts in - the only thing is that I dont' have access to a workshop anymore. All I need is for my side panel with the AC power plug to be cut out so I can finish it. And while I'm at it, how about the plate...- RHMMMM

Has anyone heard more about the new Karma?
I remember news of a new Karma from pages documenting CES back in January. It's supposed to be smaller and have a color screen and an SD expansion slot or something and it was "supposed" to be released in the Spring. Has anyone heard anymore about this or know anything?- RHMMMM

Got my new HD-650's today...please tell me burn-in helps a lot
I just got the HD-650's today. I had them shipped to my home (I'm away at school), so I went and got them and plugged them into a desktop stereo. I wasn't expecting much because they were unamped and sure enough, they didn't sound that great. I expected an improvement bringing them back to...- RHMMMM

Panasonic RP-HDA100, Anyone?
Hey, just wondering if anyone has one of these or has heard them. They're on Audiocubes for $409 and I searched for a review. The only thing I could come up with is a review of the identical Technics version, the RP-FDA100 by HI-FI Choice here...- RHMMMM

New Modded Sony DVP-NC555ES...
First, sorry about the big pictures. I bit the bullet and finally got a SACD player - ordered a DVP-NC555ES last week. One of the deciding factors to get it was that it has a separate linear power supply that feeds the analog stage as you can see below and also, it has PDIP opamps instead...- RHMMMM

Question about Scott Nixon DacKit
I'm considering building the DacKit as my next project. I'd listen to it through my DIY PPA. My only concern is that it inverts phase - he says on his webpage to reverse the speaker phase - but how would this be done on a headphone amp? Is that something to be concerned about - would it not...- RHMMMM

PPA turns off when I plug in headphones
I've had no problems up till today when I finally got around to casing up my PPA. Now, when I plug in headphones while the amp is on, the amp appears to turn off, until I cycle the power to it. I have 4 buffers/channel. Could I have blown one? If so, how do I test to see which one's dead. I...- RHMMMM

What's the best moddable Redbook CD player new/used for $500 or less?
I'm not afraid to do mods either, in fact I'd like to do some if I could. I've been looking a some players like the Sony XA20ES (my dad has one), Denon 1650AR, Music Hall CD25, or like a Pioneer PD-65. I'd like a super-rock-solid transport, otherwise I'd consider the 963SA, but I'm not sure...- RHMMMM

Some PPA parts questions
Hi guys and gals, I have a few questions before I order some more stuff for my PPA, as my first order was shy of a few parts. 1. Right now I have 5% Radio Shack resistors on the board because I have a bunch laying around, should I go ahead and get the 1% Vishay Resistors and replace them...- RHMMMM

What do you guys recommend for <$100? Eggos?
I'm considering getting a pair of phones for general use (not exercising, though) because I don't really like taking my CD3K's on trips with me and I'm too embarrassed to wear them outside my room. What, for <$100 (preferably around $60-80), is closest to the sound I can get from my CD3K's...- RHMMMM

New to the forum, have CD-3000's, DIY/equipment recommendations, any Hokies here?
