Twisted Pear Buffalo/Ventus
Had this put together for a while now, thought I'd share. TP USP->I2S -> Buffalo II -> Onetics output transformers (From Bud) -> Ventus -> JH5s. I'm going to pick up a pair of buffalo IIIs, so I'll probably move the other buffalo II (from home rig) and make this a dual...- yammy1688

B-enspirer + LUndhal transformer = superb source
This sound card uses the venerable ak4396 dac, and this mod bypasses the analog out section with a passive transformer. About $350 total, but that's using top of the line output transformers. I'm frankly astonished at the sound quality this thing is putting out. Modified as outlined here...- yammy1688

USB cable MATTERS!
Actually, just because it is packet-based does NOT mean it is error correcting. If the DAC had a direct connection to the PC/Mac and had a back and forth communication to ensure every packet arrives intact prior to processing (eg: TCP), such as the case with USB hard drives, then sure. What...- yammy1688

Pico as pre-amp for main rig?
You're using the central station as the gain stage though it seems? I'd like to just plug the pico directly into a speaker amplifier and use the pico's volume control. Quote: Originally Posted by GreatDane I use my Pico often as a USB DAC with a 3.5>RCA into my Central Station. It...- yammy1688

Pico as pre-amp for main rig?
Any risk using a mini 3.5 -> rca directly into my amplifier and using the pico as a pre-amplifier for volume control and such? I'd like to see how it compares to my current pre-amp (tact).- yammy1688

USB cable MATTERS!
Maybe I just had a bum cable, but I had static and noise with it. Swapped it out with a short one and now all is well.- yammy1688

Impressions: VEDA audio Dynahi-SA
Hello folks, I've been 'downgrading' my system as of late due to a move and took the opportunity to try and simplify things a bit. I previously owned a Singlepower Maestro and a pair of PS-1's, and although I loved the sound, something that big and expensive with exposed tubes sticking out...- yammy1688

Do these pads help prevent the cans from sliding off your head? I love my ps-1's, but they don't want to stay on! With my cd3k's, I could position myself in all sorts of ways, but with the ps-1's, i need to sit upright. Any shaking or tilting of the head and the things want to fall off...- yammy1688

Where are all the Dynahi reviews??
I'm curious how it compares to the other pimp-daddy SS amps such as the Blockhead or Gilmore reference. Price-wise, I think it would be in the same range coming from a reputable builder.- yammy1688

Grado PS-1
i can see how the bass on these can easily get out of hand and sound 'wooly'. Make sure the amp can handle super-tight bass and it's good Quote: Originally Posted by Jahn Big warning - the PS-1 is NOT for everyone. I'm a bass lover, but even I was intimidated by the PS-1. That can...- yammy1688

Maestro arrived
I meant I went for the budget-moderate upgrades. The base maestro goes for about 2400 I think? So with the tube/cap/pot upgrades I pushed a little over 3k. The 2400 pricing is only promotional I believe.- yammy1688
