Any risk using a mini 3.5 -> rca directly into my amplifier and using the pico as a pre-amplifier for volume control and such?

I'd like to see how it compares to my current pre-amp (tact).

You're using the central station as the gain stage though it seems? I'd like to just plug the pico directly into a speaker amplifier and use the pico's volume control.

I use my Pico into my KingRex T-amp. I can use the Pico for volume control or the KingRex as it has a vol pot. It should work for you. Try low gain setting first...

FWIW, to me, the Pico sounds better thru headphones...for speakers, I prefer my stand alone DACs...Paradisea+ and Peter Daniel Premium USB DAC...

I use my Pico as DAC/Pre-amp to my Dark Voice 336i in my basement, and control the volume with my Pico. I have even used it to feed my Woo GES amp to run my HE60 electrostatics and it does an admirable job.
