Any old fart head-fi'ers still around?

Still around, and still haven't gotten rid of anything! I don't use full size headphones much anymore, since I re-finished the basement into a man-cave, complete with a variety of vintage audio and video set-ups. And i haven't gotten rid of any of that stuff either............I'm a hopeless...

Official New York Spring Meet Sat May 2nd 2015

I'll put it on the calender and try to make it. Grandkids are taking up a good deal of time these days (Yeah, I'm old!) But I'd really like to be there. Thanks for the heads up, Tom. :-)

FiiO E6... A clone of my Magical E5?

I think I need to pick up another E5, so long as they are still available. Head-Direct has the silver version for $17.95........but I don't know if it's the "magic" version. ;-)

FiiO E6... A clone of my Magical E5?

Just browsing and came across this thread, as I have both E5 and E6. Checked to see if I was able to get the bass boost switch on the E5 to stay in the middle.........magic! The sound is great, and it seems to be more than just a boost in volume. The music comes alive. Thanks for the tip. :D

    cigarette-fi

VERY nice pipes..........I'll definitely look into getting one, just for a change of pace from my tube and box mods. What size battery do those take?.....and do they take regular attys? I've tried various types of cartomizers and haven't found any I like. Vaping and headphones is a great...

    cigarette-fi

Quote: As with headphones, I've kind of gotten into collecting various mods........Screwdrivers, Silver Bullet, Copper, Prodigy, Phideas bottom feeders, and a host of others. I prefer big battery (18650) mods because of time between recharging. My go-to vape is the Silver Bullet @ 3.7 with...

    cigarette-fi

Quote: Same here.......but no e-pipes, just e-cigs. Like you, I find it much more enjoyable than regular cigarettes (smoked hand-rolled for over 40 years)........better taste, no smoke, no smell, and a helluva lot cheaper. Plus, it allows me to acquire more gadgets. Last cigarette smoked...

Is a U-Shaped/V-Shaped Sound Sig Bad?

It's all about the Fletcher-Munson Curve. As volume decreases, our perception of bass and treble tones decreases and we hear mainly the midrange frequencies.  The music seems lifeless until we boost the bass and treble, hence the loudness button on many receivers and stereo amplifiers, which...

will changing RCA cables make a difference?

Quote: It was quite awhile ago, probably back in 2003 or so, but if I recall correctly, I purchased an Earmax Pro headphone amp from a gent in Australia for $400 including the cables. The cables were absolutely absurd looking on that tiny amp. I've since sold the amp..........the only...

will changing RCA cables make a difference?

Quote: Agreed. I once received a pair of $400 Cardas Cables as a throw-in with an amp I purchased. They even came with instructions for hooking up and break-in. If anything, I found they made the sound dull and lifeless.....even though they are as thick as fire hoses. Like 4-Hgeek, I buy...

    grado sound quality inquiry...

According to the graph, there is a 5 dB difference at 4500 hz, which should be audible on just about any type of music.  Why it isn't, I have no idea.

    Shure se215 amped

Quote: I have the E5 and E6........both have bass boost buttons. The E6 also has another EQ setting which is similar to some loudness buttons on receivers......it boosts both bass and treble. Considering the cost of these little amps, the improvement in SQ for many headphones is wonderful...

    Shure se215 amped

Quote: For the most part, I would respectfully disagree with this statement. Very often people get an amp and expect it to sound vastly different immediately. Unfortunately, the changes are more subtle and require extended listening to appreciate the improvements in sound quality. I have...

Need advice: mini-toslink to toslink and rca interconnect

I've had great success using monoprice cables..........well-built and VERY inexpensive. Their RCA interconnects are beefy and well constructed.  Check 'em out. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :-) http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10229...

    Analytical iems around 200eur shipped

Another vote for the HF5. I currently have the ER4S, 4P, HF5, and ER6i. All provide the Etymotic listening experience.......analytical to a fault. If money is an issue, you may want to look into the ER6i. While discontinued, they can be purchased new online for under $100. They also were...

Excellent review! And thanks for the tip on using the gray Shure soft flex tips. Like you, I was having a problem with the large supplied tips, but the Shures fit perfectly. I find the sound that these little gems produce can be summed up in one word, "musical." I'm very happy, particularly for...

    Seeking advice on earphones.

Welcome to Head-Fi, Widge. As you may be aware, each and every IEM out there has its own unique sound signature. With that in mind, it would be helpful if you could post your musical preferences and/or the type of sound you prefer......neutral, bassy, midrange focused, great high end. There is...

Speaker Restoration? I get the TLC part, but what about specifics

I wouldn't worry about the surrounds.........they appear to be cloth. I have a pair of Frazier Black Box IIs with a similar accordion cloth surround. I purchased them in 1969, and they are still going strong. I also have a number of vintage AR and KLH speakers from the sixties, also with cloth...

Turntable Fever Breaks: I Bought my Thorens!

Congrats, Chadbang. I've had a stock TD 125 Mark II for about about 30 years now........still spins those platters. And the thing is pleasing to the eye as well, but it is a tad heavy. Enjoy.
