The Who's halftime show was pretty good for a geriatric band.
The Foo Fighters would be the perfect Superbowl Half-Time Show band, and appeal to all ages, IMO. Green Day could prob pull off a good cross-generational show, as well. It's tough to name modern rock bands who can appeal to music lovers who evolve (like most of us Head-Fiers) and those who only...- zombieDave

Queen - A Night at the Opera
ANATO is a great album, as is Queen's follow-up, A Day At The Races. That said, I end up listening to their precursor, Sheer Heart Attack more than either one of those albums because I feel it is a lot less polished and captures a more natural type of energy while setting the template for these...- zombieDave

What (70's rock song) is this lyric from?
It's driving me crazy. I heard it at my brother's and cannot get in touch with him for awhile to ask him what old band/album it's from!!! Here it is: 'Cause late in the night when the lights are all down She slips off her stockings and shoes She makes you her lover And let's you...- zombieDave

Vampire Weekend - studio version of "Everywhere"?
Thanks, Juniper. I figured that if this studio version exists, it should be available somewhere for download or purchase (as a CD single or on a movie soundtrack?) Still hoping somebody knows where I can find a recording I can get my hands on...- zombieDave

Vampire Weekend - studio version of "Everywhere"?
Hi all, I'm looking for the studio version of Vampire Weekend's cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere". I cannot find a studio (or live, for that matter) version anywhere on iTunes, but I have heard a studio version and I've seen them play Everywhere live in Boston. Anybody have any ideas...- zombieDave

Why was there a back lash against Disc?
Maybe because, at the time, it flooded the airwaves with vapid lyrics, drum machines instead of a real drummer, and songs that could've been written by, well...just about anyone. The "fashions" it uttered in - via clothing & hairstyles - were also ridiculous and short-lived. The people who hated...- zombieDave

What is your favorite Who album?
My fave is the "greatest hits" collection, "Meaty, Beaty, Big, and Bouncy". It's got all the best of The Who's British-Invasion singles plus. In other words, it's the anti-"Who's Next".- zombieDave

Most natural, lifelike, emotion-evoking IEM or portable headphone?
OP - everything EFN says X 2! I sold my Ety Er4Ps about a year ago because I was simply accumulating too many sets of cans and I much prefer supra- or circumaural cans over IEMs. I used my Etys unamped through an iPod, amped with a decent portable (Tomahawk), and amped with a full-size home...- zombieDave

metal/hard rock songs for workout playlist
I'm not much of a metal-head, but my iPod Shuffle has the entire Led Zeppelin catalog on it and there's nothing I'd rather listen to while working out. Bonzo's drumming does something to me that makes it easier to power through any workout at any time of the day! If you haven't checked out Led...- zombieDave

Mad extreme bass
I own a pair of DT770-80's and, prior to modding them, couldn't stand the "mad extreme bass". I'm not a basshead by any stretch, so I wouldn't even listen to these cans prior to having them worked on because they were so bass-heavy (I got them in trade w/a very cool Head-Fier). For comparison, I...- zombieDave

Practical Devices XM5
Thanks Dane & Penguindude. It doesn't look as though spending the extra money will pay off in terms of a substantial upgrade in SQ. Plus, because I use the XM5 with a pair of bass-heavy DT770's, having a bit more bass from the 8397's in the sound sig of this rig is not something I'm looking for...- zombieDave

Do you still use a portable CD Player??
I still use them occassionally. I have a few Sony's (D-33, 34, 35) that are considered low-level vintage PCDP's and some other models & brands from my vintage PCDP-buying craze days. They all have nice-sounding line-outs so, when I pair them up with my Headroom Total Airhead, I get a very nice...- zombieDave

Practical Devices XM5
I've been keeping my eye on this thread and this page has me a bit confused. According to the PD website, they claim you do not need the separate buffers (BUF634) if you use opamp AD8397 because this particular opamp has a built-in buffer. If you're using both and making the claim that it's a...- zombieDave

Headphones for IPod
Yes, the Portapros would be a good choice. The iGrados, as suggested by the other poster, would be, as well (my wife uses iGrados unamped out of a Nano and loves them!). You could also try out a pair of Sennheiser PX100's (my personal fave), also in the Portapro/iGrado price range. Good luck!- zombieDave

Sennheiser PX-100 high end roll-off??
I agree with the other posters. I replaced the stock pads with a pair of cheap Rat Shack replacements because the Senn pads are pretty dense (compared to the Rat Shack's) and only add to the "darkness" of their sound sig. The thinner pads bring out the can's highs a bit more, IMO. Give it a try...- zombieDave

Source for MFSL CDs?
Is there a decent & reputable online source selling (new & used) MFSL CDs? I've never heard one of these CDs and would like to buy one to see if I can "hear the difference", and I'd rather avoid eBay. I've been to Steve Hoffman's Audio Fidelity site, but the selection is rather limited...- zombieDave
