High-end headphones cause physical pain in the high frequencies
@SilverEars I have tried software EQ-ing. It reduces pain but makes the headphones sound terrible at the same time. I think I should try hardware EQing as 'xcom' suggests above. I'm in my 30s. @Hifiearspeakers Thank you for the ZMF suggestion Would going down the tubes route help? I have heard...- hpandy

High-end headphones cause physical pain in the high frequencies
Hello Audeze LCD-2, sennheiser 660s, sennheiser 650 - all give me an earache within 20 minutes of moderate volume (50-60 dB in the ear cup) Dac/amps tried: audeze deckard, dacmagic + arcam alpha 10 speaker taps, fiiO k5 pro, dacmagic + O2. Now I own Bose QC35, Sony WH1000XM2, wharfdale evo...- hpandy

HE-500, LCD2, D5000, DT770, SR80, on a speaker amp (Emotiva mini-X A-100) Project
The problem was with the all in one unit (o2/odac), which may not have had an output from the DAC that bypassed the amp stage. If you have a line out from any kind of DAC you are fine.- hpandy

100 WPC @ 8 ohms. More detailed specs can be found online, it's the Arcam alpha 10 integrated amp. The more sensitive headphones were set to one or two notches out of the many available (60+ I think?) and played too loud for me to listen for long. Not practical for daily usem a resistor...- hpandy

HE-500, LCD2, D5000, DT770, SR80, on a speaker amp (Emotiva mini-X A-100) Project
So after listening to a few sets of headphones (lcd-2, pfe 012 iem, ehp-100 iem, ue6000) through the speaker taps of my arcam, I would say there is some improvement in the sound. Dac used was cambridge audio dacmagic. Most notable to me is that the highs are less fatiguing (something I'm very...- hpandy

You would be passing the analogue signal through two amplification stages if I understand you correctly. I persoanlly would not spend money on good headphones and then do something like that.- hpandy

HE-500, LCD2, D5000, DT770, SR80, on a speaker amp (Emotiva mini-X A-100) Project
Thanks for the answers guys. I've noticed that when I eq the bass significantly, music volume decreases when bass notes are present in a piece, and then increases when they are not. Empirical evidence suggests that from an amplifiers perspective, bass frequencies are harder to drive. I...- hpandy

HE-500, LCD2, D5000, DT770, SR80, on a speaker amp (Emotiva mini-X A-100) Project
I've read the bulk of this thread and I finally have a clear picture in my head of the different options. My question is this: Why are the headpone outputs of integrated amps not already set up this way? If it is so cheap and sounds so good, what is it that makes manufacturers do something...- hpandy

Reply to review by 'hpandy' on item 'JDS Labs Assembled Objective2 Headphone Amplifier'
I have it, and I disagree. It sounds considerably worse with my lcd-2 than the burson soloist I demo'd them on.- hpandy

Driving LCD2 from speaker amp speaker taps correctly
Hi, I have read many posts on this forum and others relating to this practice, and I cannot get my head around the risks and proper setup. I have read concepts such as: noise, the taps putting out DC instead of AC, running resistors in series, having to use balanced connections for...- hpandy

Thinking of moving from Wharfdale Evo2-30 + Arcam alpha 10 (loudspeaker setup) to Audeze LCD-2 (HP setup)
Ha no need to apologise - I based my decision on many reviews, and I am the only one responsible for pulling the trigger. The problem is I am 3 hours from the nearest place to test an amp. and they only have one of the amps that I would consider purchasing. I would love to hear from...- hpandy

Thinking of moving from Wharfdale Evo2-30 + Arcam alpha 10 (loudspeaker setup) to Audeze LCD-2 (HP setup)
Hi - I'm back :) I went ahead with the purchase of lcd2s a short time after my posts here . I'd like to give some impressions and seek some more advice. My budget at the time of purchase only allowed for the o2 amp. I will start off by saying that if this amp comes close to driving...- hpandy

Thinking of moving from Wharfdale Evo2-30 + Arcam alpha 10 (loudspeaker setup) to Audeze LCD-2 (HP setup)
I think I'm just going to have to take a punt at the LCD's and hope for the best. I wish there were somewhere I could demo these kind of HP's :(. I will take a look at that amp. I won't be allowing myself to open them until christmas, but once I do I will post back here for the benefit...- hpandy

Thinking of moving from Wharfdale Evo2-30 + Arcam alpha 10 (loudspeaker setup) to Audeze LCD-2 (HP setup)
Yea I only used the headphone amp in the integrated amp. I only have £1000 to spend and the lcd 2 will take 850 of that so not much left for amp. I basically want to get as close to my speaker setup as possible for the money. My biggest fear is a bass that doesnt engage me, but i listen to so...- hpandy

Thinking of moving from Wharfdale Evo2-30 + Arcam alpha 10 (loudspeaker setup) to Audeze LCD-2 (HP setup)
Hi, As the title says, I am thinking of making this transition due to the fact that I enjoy loud music but don't enjoy disturbing my neighbours :(. I am hoping that people who have owned both headphones and similar standard loudspeaker set-ups can first of all tell me if it is...- hpandy
