Grado RS1i / Beyerdynamic T1 / Audeze LCD-2 comparison
I keep thinking the RS1is will give me some fatigue, too, but they haven't. I've heard some headphones that make me wince with every cymbal. Somehow the Grados do the trick of presenting a lot of the upper end without hurting my ears. I could see six hours might be a little much. But I feel like...- Nightspore68

Best headphones for metal?
No sarcasm, my demo unit is sorely lacking in treble content. I did improve things quite a bit by moving them to my tube amp. They're pretty good now, but treble is still lacking. I think there must be something wrong with this pair. I really expected great treble extension, if only based on my...- Nightspore68

Grado RS1i / Beyerdynamic T1 / Audeze LCD-2 comparison
Slight revision: I moved the Audezes to two other systems. First, my iMac with its USB-powered Apogee ONE output. The headphones were pretty lackluster here, too, with the same problems - no upper end, muffled everything else. This is probably to be expected, given the power requirements of...- Nightspore68

Best headphones for metal?
Quote: Wow, I'm not seeing that at all with my LCD-2 demos. The vocals are so veiled and distant; the cymbals sound like they're outside the studio somewhere. I wonder if I have the connectors plugged in wrong. I'm going to check for some user error after reading your review.- Nightspore68

Grado RS1i / Beyerdynamic T1 / Audeze LCD-2 comparison
Yes, the truth hurts! I know they LCDs are popular, so that's why I offered that my pair might be defective. I may have to try the PD500 or PS100; they might be more my style.- Nightspore68

Grado RS1i / Beyerdynamic T1 / Audeze LCD-2 comparison
Yesterday I received these three headphones as demos from The Cable Company. I thought I should post my initial impressions. RS1i - crisp, very detailed, possibly favors the upper end, but very nice so far. Also very efficient (loud for given volume setting). T1 - These are hard to...- Nightspore68

What age did you grow out of metal?
When the singers started screaming instead of singing. I still listen to the old stuff, though, and I suspect I always will.- Nightspore68

Gain vs. Impedance
Use whichever setting sounds best. I think the impedance of the headphones is actually related to the gain you'll need from the amp. Low impedance headphones need less power to drive. So with low imepdance headphones you could use the lower gain setting. I believe 300 ohms is relatively high, so...- Nightspore68

Marantz PM17 as an Headphone amp
I don't know about that amp in particular, but I think Marantz usually includes good headphone amps in thier products. My CD-63SE includes a great headphone amp; I have it on my desk here at work.- Nightspore68

Why does the Marantz PM8004 beat all amps that I own???
My Marantz CD-63SE CD player has a great headphone output, too. I think they use their own "HDAM" module instead of some off-the-shelf op amp for their headphone outputs.- Nightspore68

My Dog has Caused me a Heart Attack (Picture inside)
Wow, that's rough (ruff!). Is your dog still a youngster? Ours disn't stop his wave of destruction until he was 2. He once ate a remote control. Entirely. It was never seen again.- Nightspore68

Speakers for MF M3i
I heard the MF 3i at the Atlanta Axpona show in 2011 and it was paired with Wharfedale Diamond 10.7s to good effect. In fact, that was my favorite system at the show.- Nightspore68

Connecting headphone amp to Apogee Duet
Why not just use the Duet? I think the double-amping will screw it up. I have an Apogee ONE and it's a great headphone amp.- Nightspore68

Soundbar advice
We have the 580 for our TV and we bought my wife's parents the 555. From what I remember, once you consider the size of your TV, there are only two or three models that will fit. That helps narrow it down. The 555 is great for my in laws because one of them refuses to admit he's getting hard of... -
Will a smartphone like a Samsung Galaxy S3 sound as good as an iPod Touch?
My old (~2004) iPod sounds significantly better than my iPhone 3GS, Samsung Nexus, or (current) Motorola Droid Razr MAXX. The cell phones were all relatively noisy. Of course the streaming services on the phones may have biased my opinion. Rhapsody, Pandora, etc., are all compressed whereas my...- Nightspore68

Best In ears for musical enjoyment....
Last spring I got some Klipsch Image S4A (for Android) and I really like them. I also have some 3x-the-price Etymotic 4Ses from a few years ago. I haven't critically compared them, but I reach for the Klipsches 9 times out of ten these days. Especially if I'm listening on my smartphone, but also...- Nightspore68
