This Schiit is Bananas! $99 Schiit Magni Amp and $99 Modi DAC
Modi problems, good news, workaround without reboot. Report: The Modi sounds great for a certain period of time. I have tested the device from USB powered hubs, directly to two different Macbooks and I definitely have an ISSUE. Background: I am far from a MacOSX expert but I...- l0rdr0ck

Schiit Lyr - The tube rolling thread
Quote: If you just got the tubes, they do need some burn in, secondly it takes a while for the Lyr to warm up. From my testing, I do think the 7v Tubes PCC88 7dj8, seem to have more "air" and "separation", these are usually a steal since very few designs call for a 6dj7...- l0rdr0ck

Quote: I believe this correlates with the Freq Response graph Dan put up. There is some dip 40-85Hz range then a quick rise. I might be confused. http://www.mrspeakers.com/image/data/mrspeakers/MD%20frequency.png- l0rdr0ck

Schiit Lyr - The tube rolling thread
Quote: I would totally agree on that analysis of the two tubes. Definitely the Tesla has more bass tonality. For what it is worth, I have the Russian set of tubes from Schiit and they have almost no bass response very airy.- l0rdr0ck

Schiit Lyr - The tube rolling thread
I have the JAN Philips 6922s, but i think the BEST bang for the buck is Tesla ECC88 6DJ8 1960s NOS (NOT JJ) - M. Pairs MINT NOS - Rožnov Prod Should be 30 bucks for a matched pair I believe they sound better than the JAN Philips- l0rdr0ck

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review
My experience/tests with Maddogs. You do not NEED an amp..... However, for the most part, with the better amping you provide there is a scalar relationship with quality on the MDs Amp 1: Lyr, this is a great pairing, but note that the Lyr is a great tube rolling device, there is...- l0rdr0ck

Project Sunrise/PS2 Tube Rolling Thread (and maybe even Project Horizon and Project Ember)
Built my PSII Here are my findings. I have tried both 6 volts and a 12 volt tube. 6v: Telefunken 7dj8: Echo or Reverb like bass, runs cooler than a 6dj8. JAN Philips 6922: Good all around, better bass than the Gees Tesla 1960s 6DJ8: Very nice highly recommended at 30-40...- l0rdr0ck

BitPerfect (was: Audirvana Alternatives)
Another finding, when you do itunes cloud download it seems sometimes files are saved with a .m4p extension. These items do not seem to play with Bitperfect. Unless....you rename them to .m4a, i changed the extensions and nothing really broke. and now songs that were not being played...- l0rdr0ck

Cost efficient but not underpowered amp for HE-500
Just build my Sunrise II , this thing with a nice 12v tube kicks. I feel depending on tubes you have in the Lyr (sub 200$ tubes) the Sunrise is just as good and drives my T50rp Maddogs beautifully.- l0rdr0ck

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review
Don't get scared away by a DAC, that isn't a requirement for anything at all. Basically what we are all saying is that, there is another level of dynamics that can be achieved with Maddogs (and likely orthos in general), these are for want of a better world "scalable" the more you...- l0rdr0ck
