Sennheiser HD518 HD558 HD598 HD559 HD589 HD579 HD599 Support Thread
These mods are invasive! When I took the foam out of mine I tried them on without the pads or those cheesecloth looking things. Just the drivers over my ears.- morijinal

Looking for a headphone for my wife in the $50 to $100 price
I got my wife some Klipsch Image S3 IEMs. She likes the sound quality over her stock iPod buds. The S3 also comes in cute colors. The S3 is easy to listen to, comfy, and doesn't need any help from amping.- morijinal

44,100 vs 192,000 sample rates - correct me if I'm wrong.
This thread is about sample rates. My understanding is that most audio is sampled at 44kHz - 48kHz. What would be the benefit of a device (like the Fiio E17) that advertises a sample rate of 192kHz? It seems that the increased sample rate would not positively affect the quality...- morijinal

Is SPDIF on the E17 going to matter for VORBIS
I am thinking of getting a portable amp\DAC from Fiio, and I have it down to the E17 or E7. My question is whether the SPDIF on the E17 will make any difference for my music, which is streamed from Spotify. Would I be better off by saving my money and buying the E17?- morijinal

Sennheiser HD558 impressions / review
Your experience has matched mine very closely with the 558. They are a versatile headphone, and to date the highest end I have owned. I do feel that they strain a bit on my current setup at very high volume. However, I find the best quality they have is their openness. It isn't immediately...- morijinal

Sennheiser HD518 HD558 HD598 HD559 HD589 HD579 HD599 Support Thread
I am looking for an amp\dac for my 558, leaning towards the e-17 for spdif so my $40 xonar sound card can pull its weight with the digital output. Looking forward to hearing these cans sing. The 558 has yet to stop impressing me even after 6 months!- morijinal

Why does music sound thin through my headphones?
Thank you all for the answers - I came looking for an excuse to buy a DAC and left with my EQ set to happy! Are there any computer programs that you would recommend to apply a dynamic EQ, or one that has settings for difference headphone models? That sounded like a cool idea to me - I...- morijinal

Why does music sound thin through my headphones?
PC Listening Setup High Quality enabled streaming music through Spotify XONAR DGX Sound Card Sennheiser HD558 I have done my best to subscribe to a flat EQ in order to hear the music as the artist intended it. I understand the concept. I listen without EQ correction or added effects...- morijinal

PCIexpress Soundcard Advice Sought
I have the Xonar DGX (PCI Express version of the DX), and I am content with it. It's noticeably better sounding than RealTek ESPECIALLY if you want to use the EQ. The Xonar EQ destroys the Realtek in all regards. If you decide to go with the DGX it's my personal preference not to use the...- morijinal

MOG fanboy no more
For about a year I listened to MOG every day for hours. I bought into their hype about having the most pristine audio quality, thinking nobody else could rival it. Recently, I bought a new phone that MOG does not support, so I switched to Spotify, which, like MOG, streams at 320kbps. You...- morijinal

Spotify
Quote: I was a diehard MOG fan up until a few days ago. I listened to it for hours every day, and bought into their claims about audio quality. But, as a proud owner of a Nokia Lumia 920 Windows 8 phone, MOG is not available, so I began searching for a substitute. I decided to sign...- morijinal

I want BASS in a full sized closed headphone. Can you help me?
As the title suggests, I am looking for bass. I recently started a job that will permit me to work with headphones, and I am looking for something with good isolation, and I want BASS and I'm not afraid to admit it. Currently I have Sennheiser HD-508 headphones - so I know what...- morijinal

"His and Her's" earbuds help.
Klipsch Image S4 $80, look very classy in black and chrome. Their little brother (sister?) Klipsch Image S3 are in many colors and cost about $40. They have plenty of bass, isolate extremely well, and are the most comfortable inner-ear headphones I have ever worn. All models come with 3...- morijinal

Sub-£100 headphones - DT770s or HD598's?
I own the Sennheiser 558, which, I'm told is very similar to the 598. They are very comfortable, and sound good, but I wouldn't recommend them for electronic music, or anything that relies on representation of low end bass. I would describe the bass as adequate - certainly not punchy.- morijinal

My attempt at removing the Sennheiser veil through equalization
Quote: Agreed. Filtering what exists makes sense. Amplifying what does not - does not. Don't get me wrong, I believe the EQ can cater to individual taste, and in some circumstances remove or amplify certain characteristics. However, you can only do so much when it comes to hardware. If a...- morijinal

In need of headphones + amp for under 175$
Quote: Speaking from personal experience - the Xonar DGX is capable of powering the Sennheiser HD 558 to ear-splitting volume. I am listening to mine right now at 12%, but usually 5%-7% is sufficient. That said, I can crank it up and I get no noticeable distortion.- morijinal

My attempt at removing the Sennheiser veil through equalization
This one is pretty interesting - it makes the sound cleaner, and it sounds less compressed in the midrange. The bump at 16k adds a nice edge to the highs. The bump at 60 and the subsequent valley make the bass a little more prominent without spilling into the mids. The bump at 1k represents...- morijinal
