    DIY Cable Gallery!!

So where can i find all the documentation for these studies, including setup, equipment, info on subjects, results, and conclusions? By the sound of things, your group were quite thorough and must have extensive amounts of information. I'd very much like to give it all a read.

    Mogami interconnects

Did you even read the audiosciencereview article? He said.... Essentially, there is no audible difference between cables and it all comes down to how they feel and look. Personally, i make my own cables these days. Mogami makes great Star Quad and W2964 for RCA cables, etc that is nice and...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Ordered a Modi+ the other day. I was hoping to get it before new years (i'm 30 miles from Schiit in California), but my order only says (paid). :frowning2: I feel like a dope fiend "hurry! i need some schiit!" pfft.... my iphone XR still works great. edit\ Holy crap. I just noticed i joined...

Broke the wire on my Modmic 4 at the strain relief point. Need advice.

I know it's a bit late, but i just came across this thread after killing the cable a second time and wanted to find the type i had used. And yes, i managed to rewire your microphone. I actually replaced the entire wire before and after the switch with the Mogami wire since it was more...

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

Here's the finished cable. A bit shorter than im used to but my last cable which was 2m was always catching on my chair and yanking the headphones off my desk.

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

The directional arrow points to the end of the cable where its grounded according to Viablue. The plug is a Viablue T6s 6.3mm (1/4") TRS and cost $11.49. I've always used Amphenol and Neutrik but wanted something less bulky with better build quality and the Viablue definitely was exactly that...

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

Which is why i gave some recommendations. Don't get me wrong, the 888D is a solid soldering station. In fact, all Hakko products are. My 936ESD is over 15 years old and for most jobs it has zero issues. Where the old style with the thermocouple in the handle have issues is when soldering to...

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

My issue with that soldering station is the thermocouple location being in the handle and not in the iron like you find on the much more expensive FX-951. Some very popular chinese soldering stations like the KSGER T-12 use the exact same iron tips as the FX-951 and perform just as good, while...

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

I completely forgot about this thread and made my own topic. Here is what i needed to know. I've always used Mogami or Canare cable, but this headphone cable is using Viablue EPC-4 which has 4 conductors wrapped in silvered foil, and around that is a braided silvered copper mesh shield, and...

DIY headphone cable: Ground BOTH foil and braided mesh shield at plug end?

I've always used Mogami or Canare cable, but this headphone cable is using Viablue EPC-4 which has 4 conductors wrapped in silvered foil, and around that is a braided silvered copper mesh shield, and then the jacket. I'm guessing that i should solder both the shield and foil to the sleeve along...

I just came across something so lathered in snake oil that i had to take a shower.

Ohhh... i see. So dude threatened to file a lawsuit because he said the silicon dioxide was a naturally occuring substance? And they claim theirs is man-made? hah. To file a lawsuit you have to show that the inaccurate claim caused harm to your company/brand/self. Even if he was inaccurate in...

I just came across something so lathered in snake oil that i had to take a shower.

Ahh.. that was definitely a while back. After looking up the products in the other thread, i had to take another shower. my water bill is going to be horrible this month. But don't get me wrong, i have great appreciation for high quality products but there is a point where it becomes a religion...

I just came across something so lathered in snake oil that i had to take a shower.

So i came across a thread about vacuum tubes on another site and this guy was saying how little difference there were between tube types in his amp, but then proceeded to tell the other guy what made a huge difference was by upgrading the fuses in his components by "Synergitstic Research Orange...

    Best game soundtrack?

Best video game OST ever.... Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The full OST is 6 full CD's in length. Here are just a few examples. Keep in mind, to really understand how great this music is, you really need to play the game or at the very least watch the 13 hours of cutscenes available on youtube. (it's...

    Testing audiophile claims and myths

Hate to break it to you guys, but music these days is definitely recorded with a higher overall volume than in decades past. The past decade and a half has seen music transition largely to digital and streamed content and due to advances in processing power, songs can now be equalized by...

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

Maybe I missed something, but I went to look up Neotech and oddly they don't list their phone number or address. Heck, i can't even find what country they're in. In all honesty, when buying wire for DIY cables, you should base your decisions on look and feel since barring faulty assembly of...

Broke the wire on my Modmic 4 at the strain relief point. Need advice.

Well apparently the w2493 coaxial is not available from any reputable seller that i can find by the foot. The only Mogami coaxial readily available is the w2444 which is incredibly small and likely a real pain in the neck to solder.

Broke the wire on my Modmic 4 at the strain relief point. Need advice.

So my modmic 4 stopped working the other day after i foolishly backed my chair up and caught the cable of my HD650's on the arm of my chair, pulling them off my desk and onto the floor. After a bit of wiggling of wires, found the break was at the strain relief point and went to work attempting a...

    Little DOT MK III Mods??

I changed out the four 16v 220uf caps on the signal side and replaced them with some Nichicon 16v 220uf FG (Fine Gold) audio caps. Sounds amazing. I also modded the back of the case and installed a new power socket/switch that also has integrated EMI Filter/Line Conditioner. I also got sick of...

Little Dot Tube Amps: Vacuum Tube Rolling Guide

There's a little trick you can use which makes switching the jumper super easy. Find a suitible piece of scrap plastic and a dab of CA glue and attach the piece of plastic to the jumper so it sticks out through the access hole just a little bit. No more tweezers or jumpers rattling around inside...

    Little DOT MK III Mods??

Is there a reason why you guys are using 0.47uf x2 film capacitors in the rear by the big electrolytics? The protection caps that came on my V2 were Carli .047k 275v MPX40/100/21 x2 film capacitors. I'm no expert but doesn't the K indicate 10% tolerance and the .047 indicate that it's .047uf? It...

    Little DOT MK III Mods??

Not sure if anyone found posted this already, but that connector for the volume pot that's on the main PCB is a JST XH series connector. I was considering replacing the header and wires with a better one but i think i may just solder the pot wires directly to the main PCB. The JST XH plug is...
