Sennheiser HD 560 Ovation II Review

anyone know how to release the front section with driver so as to gain access to behind the driver? it seems the white section stays with the black outer plastic section and it comes off as one? how is that pair released ? apparently they simply pull straight out? seems quite secure in my case...

    Grado Modders Go Nhoord?!?!

hello good sir !,yes they are turned inside out ! good eye. then some spandex stitched to the back to serve as an attachment mechanism to the cups leading rim.....I think they are akg 240's? or some other replacement pad. They where under $10 and are just about the right size imo.   the Foam...

    Grado Modders Go Nhoord?!?!

This is what i've got at this point. Angled driver, diy pads, and a 'central foam column ' mod. I'd recommend trying this should your particular set be dominant in that area.

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

just to chime in here with some updated sound reports from the frontlines.....I've heard 3 sets of the drivers and am enjoying them. I still need to diy fabricate some proper pads and so final impressions can only come at that point. What i've noticed is quite a nice degree of consistency...

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

here's what I've got as far as grub screws (put 4 in for each cup but probably only need/use one, to just put pressure on the driver edge and driver the entire driver tight to the remaining sides of the cup). I will probably still try and size the overall lip opening to be a press fit although...

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

the naming of each corresponds from left to right in the pics       Spent a couple hours searching ebay for some suitable pads for the standard grado style cup, as an alternative to the typical foam. All these need to be modded particularly on the back to decrease the attachment...

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

@fleasbaby You should be able to get the allen set screws to work fine even on the angled lip of your last cup. Just use a drill press with the cup clamped in proper position to drill the guide hole. Or a super steady hand drill as long as you remain square with the driver edge and disregard the...

@speedking....great namesake by the way!! deep purple fan? In any case, you are lucky to have a set of H's come your way. Let us know what you think of them in comparison to the ypsi's. I have not heard the H's but have played with the nak7 driver which is the same as what joe used. He had the...

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

general categories of modding opportunity:     1) the driver to cup 'coupling' and the size and density of the front section. Basically one has the choice of sticking with the stock RS style grado cups where the pad hangs on by that little rabbet/recess and the front section is more/less the...

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

I've got some of that adhesive backed bandage tape. Good idea to use it for the driver covers. it might affect the treble however. at least the variety I've got in front of me....I was using it applied to the back of driver -outer ring of vent holes....had some good affect there.   jav's cups...

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

got a chance to hear these drivers. Nice balance of resolution and presence, not too smooth and not too hot. Plenty of depth and detail, neutral without being sterile. Nice overall EQ and bass to mid transition. Plenty of snap and dynamics without being harsh and too grado'y.

nice review fleas.....If they want to move some of these units a link to their site would help, as a google 'Elleven Acoustica Ypsilon' didn't bring anything up for me? ......hey sling how's it going!? Sounds like we got a new driver to play with! .....time to get busy fine tuning this beast eh...

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

how is the midrange and vocal presentation compared to a magnum and pink driver? is it distant like a senn or up front like most grado drivers?   how is the presence/resolution balance? meaning is the upper mid 'hot' at all like grados or is it super smooth and resolved like the senn and some...

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

yes, that aluminum does retain the cold like no other material. You guys may need to source some kind of sticky cheeslothe type material to laminate over the driver face......when you guys give impressions of the new drivers it would be helpful if you mentioned some of the albums you are using...

is that wrap of the driver a substantial aluminum or is the driver still about the same weight as the magnum/grado?

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

a more resolved RS1 is surely right up my alley. To increase resolution without losing that RS snap-dynamics is the target for me......as you guys make cups for the driver, and if your favorite grado style pnone is the RS series,  keep i mind what made the grado RS 1 so great. That natural...

what!@#%%%?? a mature natural reference sounding grado design? A creature like this should not even be discussed on the headfi site but......it is intriguing. Extended bass, sans mid bass hump, smooth but detailed top end? sounds about right to me. I need to find the site to order a pair just...

    Grado modders go Magnum

@FLEAS....you sure do like your hot glue! It does have many uses and this one is probably fine too as it does serve its purpose in that it sets up semi soft......If you can ever try the same set of drivers in this cup compared to another of same wood, and with the same driver mounting method...

    Grado modders go Magnum

@fleas         the material is 3/32" foamrubber (on left).....the other is 1/8" harder rubber. Either or any similar could be used at this point since we don't know it's affects but the theory is that we just want to introduce something in there to break the cup up.....whatever you have...
