I had an SRH440 too, and while it sounded good, I ended up selling it because of comfort issues. My ears got pretty warm and sweaty as with most closed headphone with pleather pads, but the bigger issue was that the headband tends to press on a small spot on top of my head. YMMV of course, but...

I'm not sure why you would want a closed headphone over an IEM in this case. IEMs tend to be the best for commutes, since they give the best isolation. Not to mention that they're a lot easier to carry around.

Unless you don't like open headphones, I'd go for a KSC75 at that price. If you don't like earclips, you can always pick up one of those cheapo Parts Express headphones and use its headband (and throw away the Parts Express drivers, trust me on this one  ). If you can pick up a PortaPro at that...

My ears also touch the drivers (well, the foam covering the drivers) on the HD650, and I don't really mind. I've accepted that my ears just stick out too much. 

I wish more headphone reviews were like this -- clear, concise, and touches on all the important aspects of the headphones. All this without going too much into audiophile jargon. Keep it up, and I hope to see more reviews from you.

If you want more EQ options, or some other tweaks like crossfeed and L/R balance, go with Rockbox. Otherwise, the stock firmware works just fine IMO.

Before spending money on new headphones, try getting a Parts Express Mini Headphone. Then take the drivers off and slap the G2A onto the headband. I use one for my KSC75, and while it looks and feels cheap, it works pretty well. Worth a try for a few bucks.

There's a mod for the SRH440, which involves removing a piece of foam in the driver, that reportedly increases bass. You can search for it in the forum. Never tried it on my 440 though, so I can't say how effective it is.

Yeah, it's the price that's making me think twice about it. However, the biggest draw of the DACport for me is getting great sound from such a nice and convenient form factor, so I might end up going for the 1-ohm mod if I get one.

Has anyone tried both the 10-ohm and 1-ohm versions of the DACport? I'm thinking about getting one, but not sure if I should go for the 1-ohm mod. I'll be using it for and HD650, UM3X, SRH440, and KSC75. Maybe a Grado in the future too.

How about a Pelican case? Heavy, but hard to beat if you want peace of mind.

That's great to hear. How do you think it compares to its big brother/cousin, the RS1i?

I prefer using Shure Olives on the UM3X. Great isolation without muffling the sound like the Comply tips can.  

What's your initial impressions on the MS1i? I'm considering getting one as my first Grado, to complement the HD650.
