Busy times! Yes, I still use the V281. I'll be selling the Lumin since I've not used it for a while now (have a 2CH studio). It's a great pairing though, very complimentary.

Look for specific producers and engineers to hear the best stuff (musical taste aside).   Elmhirst, Masserati, Timbaland, Spike, Danger Mouse, Marroquin, Pensado etc.   Producers and especially mix engineers are the peeps responsible for that amazing hi-fi experience.

I've been producing and mixing late at night recently using the Abyss and V281. Stellar combo.    I'll be getting that Phi upgrade for sure.

Check out the Vio 281 also. I was very surprised how good it is with the Abyss. Better than the 430HAD - more detail, tighter bass and bigger soundstage.

The V281 needs more love. If it were a U.S. amp and more readily available to most there I'm sure it would have it :¬)

I was referring to iCan Pro vs V281. The former has an internal tube stage you can engage/bypass.

You can't go wrong with either really (running the V281 balanced).   Do you want the option of tubes? Do you want some control over the sound (bass/treble) direct on the amp? That should be your deciding factor.  I wanted reference sound with no tinkering, and hence opted for the V281. 

I'm the camp that finds them comfy to wear and I don't feel the weight at all.  Clamping cans often make my head/ears hot, the Abyss stay nice and cool. The only downside for me is having to keep your head relatively still :¬)

I'm at a loss with people who go on about the looks. They CANNOT have a typical headband due to the nature of how they should be placed on your ears (a light touch, no clamping whatsoever).   Buying headphones—which you wear at home, alone—at this price level while prioritising looks over...

How refreshing. That's how it should be done. Not countless distinct revisions (hello, Audeze et al.), an updated driver that is added to new models and upgraded in the older.   Respect to you for not releasing the AB-1288's for £5K.

Another agreement here that the V281 isn't dark. Musical doesn't imply a lack of definition.

The Abyss has proven to be a rock solid investment in sound. Especially complimentary to other flagships, rather than in competition. I may be selling mine, which is a shame; their use has dropped drastically upon investing in a 2CH studio.

Yes, I would recommend the Yggy to pair with the V281 at that price range.

That 5 day trial and discount was ridiculously short and messy, not to mention with all the bugs and whatnot. Although interested, I gave up because of it. My support ticket went cold and I heard noting back. Not very impressed.

The Moon 430 HAD is good, but the Moon 600i via speaker taps is sublime. With your budget, you really should try this setup, you'll be delighted.
