Thanks for your help. I think I am going to keep my current LOD and save up for a new amp in the future!

Consider the Schiit Asgard with a set of Grados. For $20 that amp is head to beat! 

I fully agree the Asgard needs to warm. I find this to be true with most headphones I plug into it.

Like what is said above it is good practice to turn any amp on then plug the headphones in. When are finished unplug and turn amp off. You shouldn't hurt anything if you leave them plugged in on the Asgard. But if you get into the habit of unplugging and start using other amps without relays you...

If you plan to use these headphones with a guitar amp I would recommend the M50's. I feel they are a better all around headphone then the AE2. If you decide to go with the M50 get the "M50s" with the straight cable.

The 880's are a lot more comfortable because the AKG's create a "hotspot" on the top of your head. But paired with a good amp prefer the sound of the AKG's because of the sound stage and detail retrieval.
