If you're looking for a neural sounding DAP then I would not recommend the Fiio X1. It has a warmish slightly bass heavy sound signature.

Hey guys and gals! I have the Sennheiser HD518 and as many of you know, it has a nice warm, bassy and dynamic sound signature. I recently got the Fiio X1 and it was not a great pairing(at least for me). I found the pair a little too warm(sound wise). So, I'm looking for a more neutral sounding...

Hey guys and gals!  I've been using the X1 over the past couple of days and I'm really enjoying the sound.  I find the sound quality goes up a notch with the line out to Fiio's A3 amp.  Is there any way to lower the volume of the line out?  The volume get pretty loud just after the channel...

Are you kidding me?! Fake HD598s?! And from Amazon no less! I didn't think that was possible but, thanks for the heads up. This makes a bit nervous, as I ordered a like-new entry model(HD518) directly from them yesterday. Guess I'll find out Thursday.

Another excellent unboxing video Mike. I wonder how similar the K601 and K612 sound? The one nock of the K601 was it's relatively weak bass performance. I hope the 612 recieved a bass increase as well.

That's because the HD600 series of headphones are fully capable of showing the benefits of top-end gear. In fact, before the advent of grand headphones like the HD800, many users built high-end rigs around the HD600 and HD650.

Personally, I don't view the recessed gain and cross feed switch as a negative or a deal breaker.

If you can swing it, I would suggest going for the E12. From it's specs and topology, it looks like a top performer.
