my main rig is a phoenix too and i have spent some serious hours with other amps in a local meet, i have listened to dna scott as well but due to poor set up the volumn was never able to bring up to an acceptable level that i could make a clear judgement, u may refer to this thread...

i might just wait another year for now unless i have a chance to audition. i keep seeing positive reviews of the RKV/hd800 combo from a few local meets..a lot of them prefered the rkv over the rudistor rp010b..

i could not recall the model but i'm sure it was a low end denon cdp. this probably explained why it sounded hard but i was not sure because there was no other source i could try.

i have heard luxman p1/hd800 combo but not p1u. even without comparison p1 was a little hard sounding with hd800, and i believed there are other choices of amps that produce better music flow with hd800

ayre cdp is closed to neutral with very little bit foward high, not thin nor thick. if you dont like that tiny brightness, u can always tune it with different cables. though i doubt using low/mid level interconnects would reveal that simply because a neutral cable is very hard to find and cost...
