Denon D2000 died, looking for replacement recommendations
After 11 years of near daily use one of the drivers of my beloved Denon D2000 failed. I even checked with a multimeter, confirming it was the driver. All the fake leather was flaking, and I'd replaced the ear-cups, so I suppose it was time. Any recommendations? I listen through a laptop in my...- andysor

Shure SE215 upgrade
Quote: I'm looking for something to play out of my phone while commuting, and maybe while at work, etc. I still think I'll use my Denon D2000s out of my Bithead for more serious listening. Replacement cables and portable amps aren't really under consideration... yet In any...- andysor

Shure SE215 upgrade
Quote: Don't think I'm ready to shell out for customs. I'm in Norway, so customs are considerably more here. Could you elaborate on why the Westone 4 would be better than something like the SE535?- andysor

Shure SE215 upgrade
As I've posted on other threads I recently acquired my first set of IEMs. They were quite cheap, but I was expecting them to be adequate for public transport use, which I will be using regularly from now on. The isolation is excellent, but I don't really like the overall sound. The...- andysor

New Shure SE215 - First Impressions
Quote: I'll be using a lot of public transport (mainly train) from now on, that's why I bought them. I just find the bass so un-defined and overblown that it smudges everything else. The recessed upper mids are a big turnoff as well (due to the bass?) I'll give them a few months...- andysor

Shure SE215 no bass?
Quote: I realise that. I was just hoping I would like them, even if they're not as good as what I'm used to. I'm also surprised that I don't like the bass when I like the Denons so much, but I've learned there's a huge difference between bass quantity and quality. SQ wise it's...- andysor

New Shure SE215 - First Impressions
I was really looking forward to loving these 'phones... I bought them at a bargain for use on public transport as a commuter. They're my first IEMs. My initial impressions are: Positive: Awesome isolation, very comfy, very full and deep bass. Negative: Very warm sound, fluffy...- andysor

Shure SE215 no bass?
Just bought a pair of SE215s and been listening to them a couple of hours, mostly on public transport. My initial impressions are: Positive: Awesome isolation, very comfy, very full and deep bass. Negative: Very warm sound, fluffy bass, SERIOUS lack of detail in the highs, general...- andysor

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Thank you so much to Gregorio for his extremely informative and easy to follow OP and considerable patience, even when confronted by personal attacks from people intent on defying mathematical logic in favour of clinging to their placebos. After reading most of this thread I have saved...- andysor

Advice on second pair of phones to compliment Denon D2000s
I've read a bit about the DT150s now and many people seem to say that they are quite dark with an emphasis in the bass. This sounds quite similar to the D2000s and I'm interested in something different on the other end of the scale. DT880s seem to get a lot of positive reviews for being airy...- andysor

A speaker enthusiast looking for advice on 'phones... with a penchant for ridiculously long posts.
I have the D2000s hooked up to a Total Bithead (listening to them as I type). They have given me a lot of pleasure over the year that I have owned them, but then I don't have anything in the same league to compare with as my previous rig was hd201s straight from the sound card. The D2000s...- andysor

Advice on second pair of phones to compliment Denon D2000s
Thanks Ham Sandwich. I found the manual on the internet (HK AVR-4000) and when I get time today I'll see if I can figure it out. I do sometimes use my D2000s on its headphone output and the sound is distinctly darker and more muddy than from my Bithead. I'm not sure if it's just that I'm used to...- andysor

Advice on second pair of phones to compliment Denon D2000s
How well would my HK receiver at home power some of the phones discussed here (Beyer DT880, K701)? If I can be confident that I can enjoy them at home at least if my Bithead at work is disappointing I might be willing to go for it and consider an amp upgrade later.- andysor

When do you use your Headphones?
I use my Denon D2000s at work almost exclusively. During holidays I might take them home and relax a bit in the couch with them, but mostly I enjoy the change of speakers and talking to my SO when out of the office. Makes me notice the imperfections of my room acoustics quite severely though...- andysor

Advice on second pair of phones to compliment Denon D2000s
Well, I really like the look of the DT880s, and I'd definitely get some cred in the office... Like I mentioned above I'm really into getting a set of cans that can give me a more open, airy, analytical presentation compared to the D2000s. I can get my Jamiroquai dance fix with the Denons...- andysor

Advice on second pair of phones to compliment Denon D2000s
Quote: I've heard they are very bass light and analytical, so that might be an option. However, I see lots of people saying they need a very decent amp, which I don't really have (Bithead). Will it work ok, or am I better off looking at something else? Not really keen on buying an amp at...- andysor

Advice on second pair of phones to compliment Denon D2000s
Anyone? I was thinking AKG, Beyerdynamic or Audio-Technica for their "studio" analytical sound, but have no experience. Something different from what I have in any case.- andysor

Advice on second pair of phones to compliment Denon D2000s
Quote: I know the K701's are supposed to be quite analytical and are definitely on my short-list. The whole amp+DAC upgrade I'm a bit more sceptical about. My PC sound card at work definitely had issues, and I notice a significant difference when using my Bithead. At home where I have a...- andysor

Advice on second pair of phones to compliment Denon D2000s
Thanks for the EQ tip! I notice a lot more "presence" now, and listening to Rage Against the Machine now the guitars have a lot more attack instead of being muffled by the bass guitar. I'll give it a while and see how I feel with other music as well. Still think I'm interested in...- andysor

HD 555 As An Upgrade To HD 201?
I had a pair of HD201s for quite a while. I noticed a MASSIVE difference when I upgraded to Denon D2000s. About 1000000x more comfortable, and so much more detailed and open. I agree that "anything is better than HD201", especially for long listening sessions.- andysor

Advice on second pair of phones to compliment Denon D2000s
Hi guys, About a year ago I bought a pair of Denon D2000s with a Total Bithead USB amp/DAC on the advice I received from people at the forum. I use this rig for at work listening only, about 3-4 hours a day. My previous system consisted of Sennheiser HD201s straight out of the sound card...- andysor

Total Bithead Amp/DAC upgrade worth it?
The only problem then is my budget.. Think i'll just get the d2000 now then and save up 600$ or so for a decent usb dac & amp. What will i notice the biggest difference with, the amp or the dac?- andysor

Total Bithead Amp/DAC upgrade worth it?
Hi, I'm about to order a set of Denon D2000s and was wondering if it's worth it to get something like a Total Bithead to go with it? I'll be listening at work mostly, and I find my current combo of generic soundcard -> HD201 VERY sharp, nasty and fatiguing, which is not so bad on my home...- andysor
