Talking to stubborn parents about choosing colleges

Congrats on UCB! I was going to apply there but then I missed the deadline cuz I = stoopid. A couple of thoughts: Work on your study habits now. In high school I cruised- valedictorian, 1600 SAT, blah blah blah. I'm now just coming off of academic probation at NU, after I nailed a glorious...

    Speakers to match HD650?

Dimitris, I got the impression that Vienna were a poor value, but I'll take a closer look again. Zorander, the Quads are rear-ported, so they're a no-go for me. Thanks for the input.

    Speakers to match HD650?

I'm looking for a pair of speakers to match the sound of my current headphone configuration: a pair of HD650 off a Singlepower MPX3 Slam SE (Sylvania 6SN7W as driver, 6BX7 output). The most important qualities of this setup to me are the smoothness and fullness/richness of the sound, I guess...

Is the Sylvania 6SN7W short black base comparable to the 6SN7W metal base?

Supposedly, the short bottle black base has better low-level detail, whereas the tall bottle has more slam. The short bottle is by far my favorite driver tube for HD650s in my Singlepower MPX3 Slam SE Search for adhoc's reference 6SN7 thread, there are more impressions there.

Canon and Nikon Shooters - What Lens You Wish You Got From The Opposite Brand?

All I want from Canon is a 100-300/2.8L IS. The Sigma is OK but not reliable enough IMHO, and I use mode 2 IS for panning, which the Sigma also doesn't have. So, I guess a modified version of Nikon's 200-400/4, then. I'd even take a Canon 200-400/4 itself, but I'd never be able to justify...

    HeadRoom SS amps?

Personally, I like the aesthetics of the whole line, including the big amps (I've seen and listened to the Home Balanced at a meet). I think, when you get up this high, you face a couple of issues that have been mentioned: 1. Tubes are the current trend 2. The integrated source (DAC) value...

    are you reaching your goals?

It depends... Socially, I'm content. Life is sweet, I'm lucky to have the friends I do and to have an amazing girlfriend. I'm still blown away...to think how I was wanting just a year ago...somehow things fell into place. I still don't understand how. Academically, I'm in the middle. No...

    Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.0

I've tried out the betas, and I just got a free copy since I used to have Rawshooter, but I haven't tried out the final release yet. That said, although it looks promising, it's far too bloated and uncustomizeable (is that a word? lol), and the crop tool felt really weird. I don't remember much...

    K1000 vs balanced HD650

OK, just to end the OT, since I'm not sure yet how I'll like the K1000, and since I don't have that much to work with (and my player's already modded), I'm not ready yet to ditch the headphone setup and go with a speaker amp yet...hence my idea of the Extreme. I'm still very hesitant... Edit...

    K1000 vs balanced HD650

Looks like I might go from MPX3 Slam SE to a stock Extreme and use the remainder to try some My main reason to hesitate is that I won't be able fill in the K1000 (I enjoy a richer, bassier sound, I think), but the imaging potential and ability to disappear are really alluring...

    K1000 vs balanced HD650

OK, this has been bugging me lately. How would you compare a properly amped K1000 and balanced HD650 in the following areas: Imaging- By this I don't mean the soundstage size, but the ability to place and locate sounds in a 360 degree space around you. I so miss this from the L3000, and the...

How do you guys store and organize your tubes??

Different equipment use different types of tubes, or one amp might typically use more than one type of tube on its own. Different tubes, and different brands/construction variations/etc. of the same tube, have different sounds- people "tube-roll" (switch tubes) to find which sound they like...

Here's a comparison: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showth...ht=rnb+equinox The only problem is since RnB180 isn't that active any more and no longer makes the cable, it'll be hard to find. The Equinox also has a lead time according to the Stefan Audioart website, but I believe TTVJ has...
