If it's just the return policy on the Magni/Modi you're worried about, you could keep them a bit long and always sell them later. Someone would definitely snatch them up. You might lose a bit on them, but could probably recoup most of your money. A lot of items in this hobby don't depreciate...

Dark sound means that there is a relative lack of high end frequencies compared to lower end frequencies. If you enjoy them, and can afford them, I would say keep them.
