How much is to much when EQing music?
Surprised there isn't much mention of parametric eq's, as it is a much better option than graphic. If I eq anything, it's usually just treble peaks around 2.5k and 7.5k. On my KNS8400's I drop those I believe 3db and 5db respectively, because they are very big peaks. On other phones, I don't...- winenerd

Boomphones worth it?
Quote: Well in all likely hood, they are not very good. However, if someone really wanted a ridiculous product like this, it's the only option. There are better alternative routes though.- winenerd

The recording isn't great, but I like the songs. Nice work! -
are expensive headphones really worth it?
If it's just the return policy on the Magni/Modi you're worried about, you could keep them a bit long and always sell them later. Someone would definitely snatch them up. You might lose a bit on them, but could probably recoup most of your money. A lot of items in this hobby don't depreciate...- winenerd

are expensive headphones really worth it?
Oh and on the bit about double blind testing, I imagine it just causes all sorts of arguments and turmoil in the main forums. The Sound Science forum is almost completely dedicated to it, and has a lot of interesting reads.- winenerd

are expensive headphones really worth it?
Dark sound means that there is a relative lack of high end frequencies compared to lower end frequencies. If you enjoy them, and can afford them, I would say keep them. However, you did jump straight into the deep end (well kind of the middle actually), so if you're looking to get into the hobby...- winenerd

Dubstep for the House fan?
I've heard rumors of a lot of good dubstep being out there in the world, but I don't know where to start. I'm just starting in EDM and I mostly listen to electrohouse, with deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner being two of my favorites. Any recommendations that might make me enjoy dubstep? -
++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum
Looking for something for house music with a good amount of bass and a big sound stage around $200. It will be for home use and doesn't need to isolate. It will be driven by a Schiit Asgard. Right now I'm thinking it's HFI2400 vs PRO2500 vs DT990, any others I should consider?- winenerd

Do you secretly respect Beats?
What I find funny about Beats hate around here, is that some people here will pay 10's of thousands of dollars for minute improvements in their systems, but knock others for paying $300 for a dramatic improvement in their current gear. Yes, I know there are much better ways to spend that money...- winenerd

What Over-Ear Headphones Should I Get?
I agree on the Ultrasone or DT770 too. Oops read portable now, I vote Ultrasone then. The V Moda Crossfade LP2's are in your range, but I've never heard them.- winenerd

Do you secretly respect Beats?
I absolutely respect them. Being an avid wine drinker as well being a winemaker, there are many brands that have excessive prices because they are crowd pleasing. These wines (Cali Cabs, Aussie Shiraz, etc.) bring people into the hobby, but then as their tastes change, they start looking for...- winenerd

Headphones with "n" shaped response curve with good soundstage
There's also the Q701 from AKG, I don't know what (if any) differences there are between the K701, K702 and the Q701, but it seems to go for cheaper here.- winenerd

Closed heaphones with an 'n' shaped frequency response?
KRK Kns 8400 maybe? They have enough bass on them without bleeding anywhere, very detailed mids, but might they might be a tad bright. If you don't mind eqing out a peak or two though, it fixes that right up.- winenerd

Q701 impressions thread
Haha yeah I was just a bit worried since I ordered the Asgard while planning on getting other phones, but then there was a cheapish Q701 and went for it the same day. There was a couple other reviews saying they were not a good match, but then there was also glowing reviews of the pair. So far...- winenerd

Q701 impressions thread
New member of the Q701 club here, and within 10 minutes, I'm loving 'em! Everything that people mentioned that made me hesitant to the 70x's seems rather overblown. I thought that they might be way too bright, or the sound stage would be too big for intimate music. However, both the high end and...- winenerd

Nuforce udac and Topping upgrade to, Schitt Modi/Magni worth it ?
I actually just went from a Topping to Asgard, so far the Asgard does seem to be a decent improvement, but not mind blowing. I'll have some Q701's and a better source in the next few days so I can do a better comparison.- winenerd

Well new member of the club here, just got my Asgard. Liking it a lot so far with my HD545's, but sadly my source isn't up to snuff yet. Hopefully in the next few days I'll upgrade though. Should have some Q701's here tomorrow too, they seem to have mixed reactions with the Asgard, but I'll go...- winenerd

Should I burn in my brand new dt 770 pro?
It's a rather hotly debated topic. Whether it's a psychological effect or physical change or just snake oil. Do it if you want, it won't hurt anything, but there's no reason to avoid listening to them during this period.- winenerd
