    Strange oscillation in Szekeres amplifier

The crackle occurs a few seconds after I turn the power supply on. This is without the music turned on, but with everything hooked up.

    Strange oscillation in Szekeres amplifier

Solved one problem, now I have another. I am using a rickcr42 dual-mono power supply (LM317 I think, it's been a while) and didn't have the second power supply hooked up. I was running both audio channels from one power supply channel. Oops. Unfortunately, the second power supply channel...

    Strange oscillation in Szekeres amplifier

Help me understand here: I realize that the metal tab is an electrode, but if it's screwed to a 2"x2" heatsink that isn't touching anything, how would that effect anything? I have some insulation I can try, but I don't realize how a hunk of metal sitting in the air attached to that electrode...

    Strange oscillation in Szekeres amplifier

I've got my Szekeres amplifier on breadboard right now. It's the standard configuration except that I do not have the diodes in place. C2 is 2200uF. R3 is about 500k. I am using Rg = 220 with the leads of the resistor right next to the gate. The amplifier sounds fine for just over one minute...

How do I calculate real-world amplifier values?

The reason I ask is that with a 14.2V supply, I had R3 up around 400k and Vds was still around 7.8V. I wanted to learn how I could figure out if that is way off by myself, rather than just ask the board.

How do I calculate real-world amplifier values?

I'm working on the Szekeres amp right now and I'm trying to determine a good guess for how much resistance I should dial in for R3 so that Vds is half my power supply voltage. To do this, I figured I could dust off the circuits book I never thought I'd use and plug in some values for the DC...

Grado SR80s are the best headphones ever

I came on a few days ago to private message rickcr42 to ask him a few things about my DIY amp. It was coincidence that I decided to check out what was new in the Headphones forum since I never really browse here anyway -- DIY is my only interest. Anyway, this is pretty humorous!

    Me + Rally X + Grandma's WRX =

Use your right foot for braking around town and emergency stops and maneuvers. Skid control would be good to practice in the snow in an empty parking lot. It will be all the "fun" (adrenaline) you need. Just remember to look where you want to be and your hands will naturally pull you out of it.

Was this on a flat field or parking lot with snow and ice and a course made from cones, or was it a short race through some wilderness?

    Etymotic earphones and tinnitus

I have mild tinnitus that, under normal circumstances where I haven't abused my ears, I cannot hear unless it is very quiet. If you have a similar malady and use Etymotic earphones, does the increased isolation combined with the mild tinnitus make listening to music annoying?

    "META42"s on protoboard

The people who developed the PCB and circuit design deserve a lot of credit for their fantastic accomplishment. I admire the work. Diluting the name might change this. But at the end of the day, why not call it a "META42-clone" and go have a beer? Let's not start a flame war worse than...
