Nah.. the sound it makes is already the reward. Update on the combo. It seems after putting in a few hours, the combo lacks presence with the upper mids. Shouted Vocals youd expect to end in with glory are somewhat cutoff. But still an enjoyable rig.

  7 for the Dac Yup a bit bass heavy and a bit forward, well its a good thing if you're into modern booming tunes. crank that bass gain up and you'll have your own sub beside your ear.   I'll rate the Dac in my cantata as 8.8

Yup updated to the latest firmware.  It rarely happens, so I think I could live with it.

Just slap in more mooolah and im sure the mha-100 will sound better :p... Mha-100w/ external Dac > wa7d/tp wtubes > mha-100 Well if you add up the speaker amp to the value it may be a winner for that price. All my assessment for that price is solely based on the headphone dac and amp section...

  Good point. hmmm. but still, i think the mha-100 could still have done better with that steep price. considering that (for my experience) a wa7d/tp with upgraded tubes sounded better at a quarter of the price. I think it was just a marketing move for macintosh, so that people would be forced...

For me the amp side is not an "okey" amp but a "wow" almost perfect amp for the hd800. Dac side is okey but still better than most, its just that the dac is not worth the price tag it comes with. Its a disspointment if youre going to factor the price per expectation ratio.
